Nevada County Oficial Press
THURSDAY. APRIL 19.
We publish to-day a detailed
statement from Auditer « Beatty,
showing the exact status of county finances. All that is needed in order
to secre an indorsement of the proposition to issue bonds, is that the
voters have a thorough understanding
of the situation that presents itself.
To-morrow we will publish additional information upon this subject, all
of which will tend to demonstrate
the advisability and economy of
meeting the just and reasonable demands upon the county treasury by
adopting the plan recommended by
the Supervisors.

Mrs. Myrrtz Ciarx, who arrived in Salt Lake last Octeber from
Stockton, Cal.; left Sunday ‘for Elmira, New York, whefe she has
fallen heir to $180,000. She has
been living in destitution, but on
Saturday received a letter containing @ check for $1,000, informing her
of her good luck. Peter Cooper was
a grand-uncle of hers, and the ~ supposition is that the money she had
fallen heir comes from the Cooper estate. Mrs. Clark was baptised into
the Morton Church and was importuned to go into polygamy, but refused, and was maligned and _slandered by the Elders. She ig a woman
of frepossessing appearance and
quite intelligent.
Says a San Francisco dispatch of
Monday: It isa common report on
' the street and about the hotels that
this afternoon the son of Senator
Fair, of Nevada, aged about 20, attempted to shoot his father, but was
prevented. Rumor attribute’ his
act to domestic difficulties between
his father and mother, coupled with
too free use of liquor by young: Fair.
The matter is being kept quiet, and
mation. Fair, senior, denies it all,

mills, Santa Clara county, were destroyed by fire, together with most

night and day with a full. force,
Among the losses was straw enough
to last till August, and a large
amount of manufactured material.
Tncendiarism was the cause.
Prorgessur Mrzzrout, one of the
leaders-of-the Irish dynamite party,
has reached New York. He. detail_ed to a reporter the manner. in
which the party intended to wage
their war, and in closing he said they
had England completely at their
mercy, and had given ber notice that
if she did not take warning her
doom would be on her own head.
In¥FoRMATION has reached Marysville that a man was drowned last
Tuesday in attempting to ford the
Yuba.river at Rice’s crossing on
horseback. His horse got out of the
stteam, and is the only means to
identify the drowned iman, whose
body was not recovered.

Ir turns out, according to the
New York Tribune, that Clark, the
dead clerk in the Comptroller's _office, was an extremely fast man. He
lavished diamonds and money upon
Minnie Hudson, and gambled to such
an extent that he lost $35,000 at one
sitting.
A DOUBLE homicide occurred: at
Stockton about 5 Pp. M., on the 16th.
Henry Emil Johnson, a blacksmith,
and a native of Finland, and James
Donnelly, met ina grocery store near
the Insane Asylum, and fought with
knives, each killing the other.

FREEMAN, ‘‘inspired” two years
ago to offer his little daughter as a
sacrifice, prepared for and killed the
child, is perfectly sane, and will be
arraigned for murder in Boston. He
says the inspiration came from the
devil.
