NEVADA CITY, CALIFORNIA.
—
LOocAL ENTELLIGENCE.
A Goop Lrap.—A considerable amount
of prospecting for gold is being done down
in the foot-hills,’ and the ledges are presenting a first rate appearance. Recently
Crosby & .Co. commenced prospecting a_jedge—near__McCourtney’s. Crossing, on
—Bear river. The lead was eight inches
wide. on top and increased. until‘a short
distance below the surface it became’ two
An arasta was erected upon it,
first lot paying thirty dollars per ton. © If
the ledge continues to hotd as good-as this; .
4 mill will soon be erected upon the mine.
“MounTAIN TRovt.— —Sullivan, the irrepressible fish dealer, was in town yesterday
with alot of splendid mountain trout.—
They weighed from one to five pounds
and were caught in ake Tahoe. It takes
about thirty-six hours to bring them to
this market, and they are brought to us
as.fresh as when taken from the lake.—
Sullivan will supply this market with
‘ fresh fish from the lakes and the bay.—
He will be on hand again next: Thursday
with a fine lot of fish.
SoLaAR ImaGEs.—Those who desire to
see some first rate local views, should call
at the picture gallery, on Broad street,
next to the bridge. The public buildings,
streets and prominent houses in this city
are beautifully pictured on leather and paper. Those wanting views of their residences, mills or mining claims to send
East can get a first rate picture.
Tuk WEATHER.—On Sunday it rained
at intervals until evening, when it turned
intoa regular storm. April came in yesterday, accompanied by the usual warm
showers, melting the snow and urging
vegetation forward. The sun came out
through the clonds at 10 o'clock, looking
all the brighter for the showers, and during the day the clouds fitted across his
disc like shadows, occasionally sending
down a shower of rain. It does not seem
to bea difficult matter to get up rain
this season. The weather takes to storm
a8 naturally as a constitutionaldemocrat
to whisky.
First PurcHask.—The Last Chance
Copper Mining Company is taking steps
to procure a patent to.their mine under
the national law providing for the sale of
mineral lands. This is the first. Company
we have heard of availing itself of the
privileges of the new law. The miners
as ageneral thing feel as safe as tenants . }.
of the public domain as they would as.
proprietors of their mines.
New York BakeRy.—The New York
Bakery, J. Hollywood proprietor, has recently been opened on Commercial street.
Mr. Hollywood understands the business
thoroughly, and can supply all who need
any thing in his line with the best. See
advertisement to-day.
TRIAL OF CasTINE.—The trial of Louis
Castine, charged with the murder of An
dy Johnson, at Kate Hays Flat, on the
13th day of January, commenced in the
District Court yesterday morning. The
case will probably be finished to-day.
,PERsons having warrants on the Gen_ eral Fund, registered prior to December
‘Bist, 1866, are ‘notified by the County
Treasurer to come forward and get their
cash. Interest has been stopped.
ReNatTURALIzED.—Thomas Nilon was
yesterday naturalized in the District Court.
He was naturalized in the County Court
Some years ago. The Supreme Court decided that naturalization in the County
Court was ‘not constitutional, and he
could not be registered until he got a certificate of lp from the District
Court.
StarTep Up. —The new ten stamp mill
on the California mine was started up on
Saturday. It wotks charmingly and will
be kept in constant operation.
“Fon. TREASURER.—The name of We.
Evens is today announced for City Treas}
urer,
