stand that John Majors, formerly: driSALe oF Stace Lings—We underShaw, agent of the same compaity at
Sacramento, have purchased of -the
Brown Bros. the Grass Valley and Nevada stage line for $7,000. The purchasers are experienced stage men, and
appointed Committees to select grounds
~ gtaff'in front of his store on Commer~ ties for the next Presidential term,
“good idea for all the schools of Nevada
pic nic in which all the children of the
Majors, who will handle the “ribbons,”
is popular wherever known. The Brown
Bros, have, we understand, purchased
a livery stable in San Raphael, Marin
county, with a stage line which runs
from that place to Lime Point.
Hanes ovr His ‘S16n.—George R.
Crawford has raised a handsome flag
cial street and run up the Stars and
Stripes to the mast head. Near its
base is a book handsomely painted and
having inscribed upon either side, “Congress.Book Store.” The title on ‘the
back of the book is, “Grant and———”
the remainder to be filled when the
Chicago Convention nominates a candidate for Vice President. Crawford
hangs.out his , which~is but a symbol of the text. of American poliMixtnc Svrr.—Yesterday the case
of German vs Wood was tried in the
District Court. Sargent,Reardan,Thornton and Williams appeared for plaintiff,
and Niles and Belden for defendant.—
This is a suit for ejectment, for the possession of an interest in-the Caledonia}
mining claims at French Corral. Quite
a number of leading miners of French
Corral and Smartsville are interested in
the ease. The testimony was concluded
yesierday, and the defendant’s counsel
were granted ten days to file briefs and
the plaintiff 10 days thereafter to reply.
Scoot Pre Nics.—The Baptist and
Congregational Sunday Schools have
for May pic nics, and -make other arrangements. Why would it not be a
to actin concert and have one grand
city may join? The Sunday Schools
are all working for the-same end, and
there is no reason why a spirit of harmony should not influence them in all
things. One pic nic, in which all the
children and their friends may unite,
would be much more pleasant than one
for each school.A Live.y Fient.—A couple of drunken Spaniards engaged in a pitched battle on Sunday morning, in the rear of
Davis’ gunsmith shop. One was armed
_NMith a cobble stone and the other with .
ah iron bar about a foot in. length.—
They were so drunk as to be incapable . _
of doing much da: but each seemed
bent on mischief, Marshal Cornell took
them. to the calaboose and in ten minutes after the door was shut they were
both asleep.
REPars NEEDED.—The people residing along the line of the road leading from Selby Flat via John Dunn's
house te Rock Creek and the San Juan
read,-are making great exertions to
secure a goodroad. They are ready to
expend money, and will work if they
have a guarantee that the road will be
kept in-order by the county. — This locality is thickly settled, and a good
road ought to be built and maintained.
___ ASSAULT aND Batrery.—Wwn. Hol. Dan
brook and Dr. Babcock had a difficulty
on Deer Creek on Sunday last,in which
‘the latter was considerably bruised .
about the face and head. ‘Holbrook was
arrested and will be tried before Judge
Opp Feiiows.—Next Sunday will be
the Anniversary of the organization of
the Odd Fellows in the United States.
On that oceasion Rev. C. H. Northup
will delivera sermon before the orde™
in the Methodist Church in this city.

near Newtown, was yesterday arrested
by Deputy Sheriff Venard,and brought
before Judge Niles upon the charge of
insanity. He is a native of Sweden,
aged 40 years, and is unmarried. His
insanity is caused by excitement upon
the subject of Spiritualism, and he
believes himself to be haunted by the
spirits. He is, at times, violent in language and acts, and is considered unsafe
to be at large. He was examined by
Drs. Hunt and Cymmings, and will be
sent to Stockton in a day or two.
Just RECEIVED, a telegraph dispatch
from, A. Goldsmith, San Francisco.—
Immense decline again in Dry Goods
and Domestic Goods. Call and convince yourself of the astonishing low
prices of all kinds.of goods. Goldsmith
is now sending up the handsomest dress
goods that have ever been brought to
this place, and the very latest style of
trimmings and millinery goods, etc. *
DOWNFALL IN Purces.—S. Haas &
Co., corner of Pine and Commercial
streets, have determined to undersell
any clothing store in Nevada city or
county. They are marking and selling
clothing cheaper than any other house
in this city; They are selling fine
Summer Cashmere suits as low as $7 50
~—for coat, pants, and vest. Neck-ties
and. handkerchiefs, and all kinds

‘the “Baldwin’s Fig,” can only be had

Dr. J. Ms. Moreeno, the popular San

upon apy of the diseases which the human
family are subjectto, either in person or
by letter, and have their medicines sent them
