agent of Lee & Ryland’s. Circus was inform. .
ed at Auburn and. Sacramento. that Nevada
waa “played out’ aga “show town,’ ” gtid accordingly he advertised for two nights at .
Grass Valley and one at Nevada. The show
came and -played as per announcement,
making” about expenses at. ‘Grass ‘Valley,
while at this place ina single hight they took
in two hundred dollors more than in our
neighboring town in two nights. Nevada . Ma
has always had the reputation among showmen of being one of the best “show towns”
in the State, and our people always turn out
in large numbers—but they don’t'like to be
“bilked.” Lee. & Ryland have a gvod rep_ufation as showmen, and for that reason the
+ pavihon was crowded on Saturday night.
‘The new theatre will soon be completed,
‘and then some of the best companies in the
State will visit our city. .
‘Tue Takcer Excurston.—Members of

hope that every member of the Company will
_ be-out. Four prizes are to be contested for
by members of the Gompany: the Compa.
ay medal, a fine hat, presented by S. Haas
—.& Co.,a-cigar case, by A. Goi dsmith, and &
gorgeous leather medal presented\hy W. G.
Jenkins, A lively contest-will be: had_ for
the latter. The prizes will be awarded in
town after the return of the Company.
Setarics Music.—We are informed
that the organ in the Baptist Church is often .
heard during the night when there is no light
in the house, and at such times'as a human
would be making music with his nasal organs instead upon one of Mason & Hamlin’s
Cabinets. The party who heard the music
says that the instrumentis played very softly,
and sometimes it can hardly be -recognized
“asa tune, while at others itis distinct. The
question i is, who is the musician? We rather
think that some of our musicians are in the
habit of practicing late at night, or else
somebody is addicted to melodious dreaming.
oe
Tue BALL To-niGHT.—Tbe Annus} Ball
of the Light Guard will take place at Tem.
perance Hall this evening. The Hall has
been newly plastered, the floor smoothed,
and will be lighted with gas. The best of
music has been secured, an excellent supper
provided, and evexything done to make it the
mostagreeablé affair of the season. We
hope to see a large number of citizens out.
.FURNITURE aT AUCTION.—The fine lot
of household, parlor and kitchen furniture
~ OfRev. H.Cammings, will be sold at auction
to-day at 2 o’clock P.M. The sale will be
held in the building opposite the office of the
South Yuba Canal Co., on Main street-—t
