‘Nort BLvOMFIEbD.—A ‘cortespondent.}~"
writing us from‘this:pince-eays a great ex‘gitement was kicked up in the town’ of
North Bloomfield by ‘the discovery of a
handsume piece of gold. He says: “F,
Shotiéhet; Who has been working in the
north bank of the creek, about. ene fourth
of a mile above town, all winter, making
-from three to eight dollars per day, iately
started, a.small cut in towards the hill, and
\while working, Friday, found quite a rich
specimen. It is a blue washed quartz rock,
measuring four inches across its surface,
14 inches in thicknees on an average, and
weighing three and a half. pounds avoirdupois. ts intrinsic value is variously, estimated at from two to three hundred dollars,
Next day everybody went to see the hole it
came-out_of, keenly inspecting each gravel .
bank on the wey, to see if they coud not find
a kindred piece.
[Since the above-was in ae Mr. Poquil: . ”
lon has brought the specimen to-our office.
It more: thao sustains the description of our
correspondent, A broad. band of gold runs
through the quartz. We=should estimate
.it one half gold.—Ed. ]
Co’s. ditch having become clogged up ity
~ sediment, between here and Eureka South,
owing to which the compatiy could not sup.
ply the amount of water required. throughout this viéinity. They, the Ditch Co. have
quite’a nuimber of hands employed ‘cleaning
it out, and when that is done work: will be
again resumed, Up to this time, all-the
claims here have yielded well. R. C. Black,
who now owns the old Jacob claims, has
beea taking out between $2,000 and $3,000
each run of from 8t0 10 days. The Jenny
Lind Co-., adjoining, have been making
net profituf from 6 to'8 dollars per day to
the man. The Canadian, Marlow and:Montreul Co's. have each done better this season
than for several preceding ones. Oar claims
here are all good, and could a few capital”
ists be induced to invest & part of their surplus cash im running a tunnel into this
place, instead of their buying up “wild cat,”
not only would they be largely remunerated,
but:would, be the’ means of enabling us to
work our claime the year round, instead of
3 months each year, and the way we would
roll out the gold would astonish every one.
Quartz Discoveries.— Within the past
few days.some seven or eight good ledges
have been found:on Deer Creek, about three
miles from town. One of these ledges is
about three fect in thickness and the rock
bears the appearance of the best quality, although none of it has been crushed. We
~ learn,a few tons will be brought to the
French mill some time this week “for crush<
ing.. Another of the above ‘ledges is about.
eighteen inches in thickness, and a picce of
thé quartz taken out at a distuncé ‘of fourteon. feet shows any amount of galena and
is doubtless a yery valuable lode. In the
immediate vicinity of the above, men ‘are
engaged, in opening several ledges and their
prospect is’ decidedly goud. There is no
danger now. vf ledges nut being ‘thoroughly
prospected, as men see the foolishness of
sinking a shaft twenty or thirty feet dnd
then leaving it for others to make.a @rtune
out of it.
Fine LepcGu.—For a ad “steady paying ledge, we,.believe. the Green Mountarn
Company’s. situated on Deer Creek, at the
head _of-Merchie’s ravine, 23 miles from
this city, takes the premium. They havé &
very large and ‘extensive lead and opened . .’
in such a manner that they could work at:
Teast @ hundred men to good advantage, who
sould get-out quartz enough tu keep'a dozen
mills running. night aod day,. Last week
seventy-five tons of ‘rock frm this lead was
crushed at the Drietital mill and yielded the
sum of'$2,000 over'and abave expenses.
Ho! For Monrand.—If ture is a wan .
in Nevada county who contemplates visiting
the Montana mines, we would suggest that
he first call at “Blaze’s’" ‘Saloon, on the
corner of Pine and Commercial streets, and
4e¢ the large and beautiful quartz epecimeawhich was foynd in this county a few days
20. Itie valued at $300 and. is-the pret‘ticat piece of geld and quartz that'has been
tound onthe coast. “Blaze” says the fools
4re not all déad, and. if it had been brought
from Montana it would have been the
means of {reezing to déxth atleast 500 men,
