The Grass Valley Union of yesterday says:
““The school children have taken so
much interest in the Institute, or
the fine music that is presented
there, that -their large atteridance
has become an obstacle to the transaction of business. Yesterday not
less than 150 attended the afternoon
caused great inconvenience and 80
much confusion as to greatly interrupt the proceedings. In order to
remedy this it has heen decided by
the Institute that during the re_-mainder_of the sessions, to be held.
to-day and to-morrow, no children
under sixteen years of age will be
admitted. It is hoped that parents
will notice this rule and impress upon their children the necessity of
staying away. While it is creditashould desire to attend the Institute
yet it mast be remembered that the
meetings are. held not for their instruction, but for the benefit of the
teachers,”
cated say that as a school it has thus
far been almost a failure, but as a
“show” it has been ‘‘immense.” An
elaborate musical programme, — réflecting the greatest credit upon the
performers, has Ween carried out
_ from day to day, to the great delectation of the seventy-five or so teachleast four dollars each per day for
the time that they are in attendance.
Let us see what this Institute costs
the tax-payers: For the five days it
continues the aggregate per diem of
those in attendance will not fall
short of $1,500, while the incidental
expenses muat be at least $150, The
question arises, can we in these hard
