THe Town Srre.—A dispatch was
yesterday received by Williams & Johnson, attorneys for the city, from the
Commissioner of the Land Office at
tion of the Trustees of Nevada city for-.
the lands on which the town is located,
had been confirmed anda patent would
ve issued. The people of Nevada now
have a fine prospect of obtaining at an
early day an absolute title to their landsA correspondent of the Union, speaking of this decision, says: This isan
important decision, it being the first one
rendered under the’new Act concerning
town sites, and also giving construction
to the meaning of the Act authorizing
towns and villages to enter lands for]
the benoit-of the inhabitants, without .
regard to the mineral or agricultural’, Srejoice when the good news.comes of the
characte of the lands. The towns and .
villages throughout thé State, tocated
upon public lands, even inthe mineral
region, can now p and acquire
their titles. Somé doubt existed as to
whether mi 1 land could be entered
for tow site purposes, and consequentmuch uneasiness was felt in towns
and it is pleasant to.find the construction given the Act has been concurred
in at Washington, as it adds one more
link to the chain of decisions puttin
the question of titles at rest.
AFFLICTION AND DESTITUTION.—A
sad case of suffering and destitution at
Sebastopol Hill. between Ophir and Os~
borne Hills, Grass Valley township, has
been brought to our notice by a gentle.
mag conversant with the facts. A Mrs
Bennett,who has three children depend.
ent upon her, was recently prostrated
_by paralysis. On last Thursday she
was witheut a particle of food or a cent
of money in the hoube.' She sent to

get into the Hospital. but was informed
that'no provision had been made for
the care of women. This is a sad case,
and the people in the vicinity should
sce to it that the mother and her little
ones are fed and cared for. A Benevolent Society in Grass Valley would be a
good institution. :

being continued until about morning,
Those who went over from this city
were delightéd with their visit, and
their reception by members of the Order.
INSANE.—Nicholas Kuntz, for many
years a resident of North Bloomfield,
and a shoemaker by trade, was brought
down by Constable Burke, on Monday;}
upon the charge of insanity. He thinks
that the Chinese have stolen from him
a five and ten gallon keg of. gold dust,
and declares his intention to burn their
houses unless his dust isreturned. He
was examined by Drs. Hunt and Tiling
and will be sent to Stockton.
In yesterday morning’s paper we
omitted to mention, in our item in relation to the reduction by the Pacific
Union Express Company of freight and
express charges, that the prices given
applied to shipments from San Fran~
‘cisco to Colfax, and not from Colfax to
' this city, as might be understood from
‘the wording of the announcement.

LIVELY.—Next Monday is -certain to
be a very lively day. The city election:
will take place and it behooves every
man who is interested in the welfare of
the city to turn out and vote for the
best men in the field for the various
offices. The contest will be for Marshal and Treasurer. y 4
On the same day the Board of Super—

of the county, and the subject of.a free

Those who are mostly interested should

IMPORTANT TO. THE LADIES.
When a female is in trouble or afflicted with
disease, and requires medical or surgical attendasice, the enquiry shonld be, where is
there a physician who is fully competent to administer relief, and whose respectable standing in society recommends him to the contidence of the community? ‘The Doctor understanding how impetatively necessary these requirements are, feels called upon to interposd)
and by very J the attention of the afflicted to
the ‘fact that he has been a Professor of Obatetrice and Female Diseases for Twenty Years,
and is fully qualified to administer in all cases
both medically and sargically, not in a superficial manner, but in as thorough & mianner as
vears of stady and practice—both in hospitals
and families—can make, te save themfrom the
hands the unqualified, unserepulons and designing. Therefore families can rely upon him
as upon afather, Allin affliction can find in
him one who can feel and sympathize with,
and befriend them in trouble—one in whose
