ALARM o¥ Frrg—An alarm of hoe
was occasiaed yesterday afternoon by
the burning of a chimney in the building occupied by Geo. Reese as a saloon
and residence. Both fire companies

that a fuundation is now being cleared
near the mill for the new hoisting and
pumping works.
MINING aT THE CascapEs,—A large
amount of hydraulic mining will be
done on Deer Creek, near the Cascades, .
during the coming Summer. The heavy
_ snows have delayed operations, but the
large prospects obtained from this
ground last Fall have awakened a
-lively interest in mining, and the claims
which were located at that time will be
vigorously worked.

Maltman & Marselus’ hydraulic diggings, and was ‘found to work well with
