Heary P. Sweetland, an old and
highly respected Nevada county man,
died at San Franciseo last week, . He
came to California in 1849, from
Memphis, Tennessee, and settled at
Sweetland,the town which now bears

of H. C. Mills, a lady who was walk
ing onthe side-walk, near that place,
hearing the team coming at a frightfal speed, looked around and
saw she wus in danger of being run
over. Knowing she had no tiare to
lose, and fearing the team might
take the side-walk instead of the
street, she jumped up ou the fence
and missed her bold. Inthe twinkling ofan eye she was rolling down
the hilt to Deer Creek, and miraculoagas it: may seem, she was not
seriously injured. No personin the

without breaking their necks; there
being so many boulders of every
shape allalong the bill which bends
