the Ob, 1s lia, leet uni the Ve~ And lies eby eVaIrg, 13 00 da city © ferm nufacEe Ghe Daily Gransevipt, NEVADA CITY. oe-=-— LOCAL ITEMS. Suspicioned but Guiitless. : An instance occuried in this city, on Friday, illustrating the jiability of cir~ cumstantial evidebee misleading. D, }, Goodall and John Cunningham, two respectable men, who have resided in the county for about seven years, were arrested on the charge of perpetrating the robbery of Mrs. Linderman at Buck¢ye* Hill. They were at Huont’s Hill, took a drink in a saloon, and left ia the direction of Buckeye Hill, only a short distance of, just before the robs very ; Were afterwards seen in You Bet just about tbe time it would take to walk trom Buckeye Hill after the rob. bery, and tuere conversed with different parties, and in consequence of the its ule travel they had been observed on the road!) On their way to Nevada they heard that the men who drank, at Hunt’s Hill the night of the robbery probably committed the deed. They immediately went over to Linderman’s with some friends, and the lady, whu had known them betore, said she was confident they had not committed the robbery, @nd her declaration exculpas wed them. Had she been killed by the thieves, the chain of circunistances would have gone far to convict two entirely innocent parties, Before this interview with Mrs. Lindermen a warrant.had been placed in the hands of Sheriff Dickson and as he knew nothing of the facts he arrested’ the parties. Ono learning the facts yesterday they were of course releasel. We learn tha, both are worthy men who have been working for Neece & West at You Bet, that they'are weli known and highly spoken of by the best citizens of the place. The Aurora Rink, V Wednesday of next week will be the last daye skating at the Aurora Rink, Tumperance Hall, Mr. Jas. E. Sayers having sold the right to use the skates to the proprietors of the rink to be epened at the new hall on Broad St, Mr. Sayers has made arrangements so that those who have purchased skates will be entitled to retain them, and his season tickets will be honored at the new rink. On Wednesday and until that day the rink will be opened at the ‘usual hours. Mr. Sayers has during his stay in Nevada made many warm friends, and many of his patrons will be sorry to part with him. He has done all in his power to make his rink a pleasant placa of resort, and has cons tributed much to the pleasure of our citizens. Wherever he may go we wish him luck. The Buckeye Robbéry. The wite of Martin Linderman, at Backeye Hill was more seriously ins jured by the villains who robbed the house last week than was at first’ sup~ posed. One of them while tying and gagging her placed his knee upon her breast and bruised her terribly. Her *hreat is also much swollen, and her mouth sore, from the manner in which she was gagged. They took $60 in coin, Some specimens of considerable value anda pistol. Two men were arrested in this city on the charge of the robbery but Mrs. Linderman having seen them was confident that they were not the parties and they were released from custody. Mrs. Cutler's Lecture. At the close of Mrs. Cutler's lecture yesterday, Mrs. A. H. Hanson moved the following resolution which was uaanimously adopted: Resolved, thut the ladies of Nevada who have attended the course of lectures on anatomy 8nd physiology, during the past week, desire to express our deep interest in the topics, and our earnest, commendation of the lectures given by Mrs, Catler, and we. desire to commend them and the lecturer to our sisters ‘on thig Coast, deeming them of the utmost value to the interest. of humanity. First—To prevent the continued periodical skimming ot the State by purely iocal and foreign Lusurance Companies, as is now done, the jarther centralization of capital in San Francisco to be controlled by. the few; the pernicious effects of which are everywhere visible and generally acknowledged. Plan of the Company. First—No doubt whatever exists, that the first object of the Company can be most full and perfectly accomplished by the establishivg’of a branch in each and all of the cities and principal towns of the State, under the supervision and control. of local Directors and officers, through whom the-Capital of the Company shall be Joaned in the localities where subscribed; and fur like purpose, the annual division of the entire net rece pts of the Company amc tg all the branches, Fro rata, according to the Capital Stock represented by eacit. “By tiie Wetiod, every brauch office ts practically a home office, enjoying all the advantages which could possibly accrue through any purely local organizawion, greatly ‘increased by an extended influence and business. Insurance of Loans, Second—It is. confidently. hoped, believed and expecied that the second object above stated, can be as tully andcomp etely secured through a new form ot policy, in which the Company ?nsures not only a perfect title to the lands given as security but also, prompt and complete compliance with the conditions of loans. ” ‘1 he insurance of Crops, and the sufficiency of collateral securities-tor—other interests, as is done in Kastern States, May also become of such importance as to induce the Compavy to add those branches to its other busiLess, Reduction of Interest. Constant accessions to local capital through the thousand ayencies ef this Company must tend to the reduction of interest. Capital Steck.
