Daily Transcript,
NEVADA CITY.
——_
LOCAL A F FAI RSs.
FREIGHT AT. Courax.—Owing to the
jmpassible roads very few teams haye dared,
to venture with freight for this or any other section of the State. We understand
freight of all kinds have accumulated in im. .
mense quantities at Colfax. The storehouses
areall full, anda large lot was left out in
the storm, a quantity of which is damaged .
“ more or less. We anticipate teamaters:
will not be very apt to take that out door
frieght, to these to whom it is directed.—
gomebody will be compelled to foot a big
“pilt of damages.
StsPENDED Work.—Owing to high wa“ter the companies at-Rocky Bar, near Washington, have been compelled to suspend op-.
erations. Before fhe storm, the claims
owned by.Brown & Fisk and Hazen & Co.
were paying at tle rate of $8 per day to.
the hand. The Harroun Company took
out 80 car loads of dirt, which yielded 32
ounces, a day or two before the water.drove
them out. These claims are considered
very rich. ;
PITTSBURG MINE.—Some part of the:
‘hoisting works of this company gave way
on:Monday last and the working of the minejs'etypped for the week. This mine is on
the hill near Gold Flat, empleys 30 men
and have taken out a large lot of fine looking quartz, wh:ch is being crushed at Stiles’
oil .
New Goops.A. Goldsmith; on the corner of Broad and Pine streets, has been receiving, during the past ten days, the largest
stock ever brought into this city, of dry
goods, fancy goods, and in fact everything
the ladies want. Calland see his beautiful
goods—whether you wish to purchase or
not. ee
TAKE THE OaTH.—Blanks have been
printed to be furnished to each tax payer to
fill out the list and valuation of his property
in this county. The Assessor will swear
every tax payer that the list so delivered to }
-himis-trueandcorrect. j
QuarTz.—A gentieman from. Washingtoa informs us that prospecting for quartz is
carried on very extensively near that place.
Some very fine ledges have been discovered
at Canon. Creek, and_ata place known as
God's country.
Firtry tons of quartz, from the New York
mine, at Grass Valley, was crushed a few .
days ago and netted over four thousand dollars, or $80 per ton. We believe seine of
our citizens ate interested in this tine.
PosTPONED.—The Chinese case which
was te come off before Justice Palner, yesterday morning, has been postponed to Monday next, inorder to give the prisoners
time to get witnesses from Sierra county.
~ARRAH-NA-Poue will be. produced in
Tuesday evenings next. The box office
will be open on Friday morning next at 10
o'clock.. Se
MamMoTH Co.—The rock that this company is now getting out is exactly the same
. a6 that of the Star Spangled Banner. Good
judges cannot tell the difference between
the twe. It’s a splendid-ledge.
Cuas. BARKER has appointed C. Mulloy,
E. F. Beanand A. F. Mason, as deputies to
collect poll tax, also taxes due upon all
pefsoual property While on their rounds assessing.*

NEVADA Q. M. Co.—This company is
“now taking out better rock than ever. Itis
better known as Suggs’ mill.
THE Grass Valley National gives us the
following particulars of the death of a young
‘man named S. B. Couts, a native of Missouri, but at-the-time of his death living at
,-or-nearthe-Empire Raneh. It seems that
young Couts had gone to a spring, ‘for a
bucket of water, about 4 o'clock, Thursday
afternoon. and not, returning, one of _ his
friends ‘went after him inthe evening,
about7 o’clock. He wes found dead; his
head being in the water. It is supposed by
some that he had an apoplectic fit, while
others imagine that he cummitted suicide by
drowning, from the fact that both his hands
were found folded across his back and his
face was completely submerged in the wa.
ter. He has recently been living at-French
Corral, in this couity, and has a number. of
relatives living near Orovillé,. Butte county.
He was known as-w sober, industrious man,
and as such was highly esteemed by his
acquaintances.
PROBABLY the oldest fireman in this
State is Dr. Perez Snell, of Sonora. His
age is about eighty-three ; nevertheless, he
marches nimbly in processions, and on occasions of great danger or excitement,
starts off with alarcity and works like a

Nevada, March 9th.
ACard from the Trustees of the Nevada Theatre Company.
In the Nevada Gazette of March 22nd, there appeared under the head of ‘Beware of Greenbaecks,”’
a fabrication of contemptible, dirty lies against the
Trustees of the Nevada Theatre Company, over the
signature of Julius Dreyfuss. He savs that he com. .
menced a suit against the Theatre Company before
Justice Palmer and that the Trustees paid him in
Greenbacks In reply to the above, Julius Dreyfuss never commenced suit against the Theatre Company in Justice Palmer’s or any other Court— nei
ther did the Theatre Company or its Trustees ever
pay him in Greenbacks—neither do the Theatre
Company owe him anything. oe
~~ *FHE TRUSTEES,
m23 Of the Nevada Theatre Company.
Through respect for Julius Dreyfuss and his Greenback grievance, we will help
him to more fully explain the case. J. Dreyfuss
sold a Bill of $19 00 against the Theatre Company
to @ man by the name of Staley. Now it appears,
Staley, the naughty fellow. has paid the unsuspect
ing Julius in Greenbacks. Surely, no intelligentcitizen would blame us for a mean action committed by
others. THE TRUSTEES,
m25 Nevada Theatre Company.
