ae eo _____ wheel skate. They are attached to the NEVADA CITY. LOCAL ITEMS. Chicken Stealing. ’ If anything will make one feel indignant,it is to wake up in the ‘aa ing and find his hen roost robbed. During the past week many of our citizens have missed their finest hens, and the egy crop has been diminished by the numerous raids upon roosta) On West Broad street and Lost Hilf since Wednesday, considerable foraging in a fowl way has been doae, and the following are the losses so far as reported; Mitchwll 4, Rolfe 4, McCoy 8, Trezise 7, Gordon 7, Eddy 6. Others have probably beewn robbed who are not reported. We know of a hen roost uiider which a torpedo has been planted, and the chicken thief who hunts it will probably be picked up in fragments by a Coroner's ‘jary. The Assessment. Ae ‘The County Assessor and his deputies yesterday commenced the assess— went of taxes for the current year. JJ. Dorsey; County Assessor, yosterday commenced work in this township. He will assess Nevada and Grass Val-~ ley townships. J,M. Starr will com~ mence in Little York township, today, and will assess Little York, Washington, Eureka and Meadow Lake. H. P. Bridgeport townsbip and w.ll assess Bridgeport, Bloomfield and Rough and Ready townships. y) Church’s Skatés. George A. Charch, of this city, has -guceeeded in getting up-a two wheel skate which works well. The wheels are grooved in the centre so as to give them the same bearing as the tour foot board by a fraineé Working at one end on a pivot and at the other bearing upon a strong rubber spring. This ar. Fangement.gives.the skate. a spring while in use, and enables the skater to turn with equal facility as on the Piimpton skate. Many of our skatists have tried Church’s skate and they all Jove it. : rth Bicomfield. _North Bloomfield, since the strike of the North Bloomfield Gravel Mining Wo., is getting to be a lively place. Dr. Farley has removed there tor the practice of medicine, and an Odd Fellows’ Lodge is about to be organized. A new boarding house has been upened, and town lois are held at the muzzle of six shooters. There are indications of lively times among the people.— North Bloomfield will likely prove no “Humbag” after all. , atinz Shoes. : W.R. Coe has received a lot of skating shoes for ladies. The fashionable dress shoe is as poorly adapted to skating as a bag of shot is for swinging, and this fact has induced manufacturers to Supply a shoe with low, broad heels, fit for skating.) Mr. Coe has a fine lot of these shoés, and lady skatists should call and see them, Late Papers. Spencer & Pattison have the New York Ledger, Once a Week, and all ‘the late papers and magazines. Those in want of late reading matter should give them a call. Thanks, We are indebted to Geo. E. With~ ington for a copy of the Portland, Ore~ gon, Real Estate Gazette, containing valuable information in regard to Oregon real estate matters. ing Location. . A single spark may kindle a flame that will consume a city, and small ailments neglected, may end in fatal disorders. Bearing thie fact in mind, let the first symptoms of debility or nervous prostration be met promptly with invigorating treatment. Foremost among the vegetable tonics of the age stands Hostetter’s Stomach Bitters, and whenever the vital powers seem to languish, or there is any reason to suspect that the animal functions essential to the sustenation and purifi. cation of the body are imperfectly performed. ; this invaluable invigorant and_ antisepticshould &t once be resorted to. Indigestion always produces weakness of the bodily pow~ ers. Sometimes it happens that the appetite demands more food—than-the stomach can digest; though not more, perhaps, than is required to keep up the full strength of the frame. The object under such circnmstances is to increase the digestive capaciiy of the assimilating organ, so as to make it equal to the duty imposed upon it by the appetite, and capable of supplying the building material of the system as fast as it is required. This object is fully accomplished by the use of the Bitters. They tone and genily stimulate the cellular membrane which secretes the gastric juice, and the resuit is that the solvent is mingled with the food in sufficient cles into pure and wholesome element. If, on the other hand, there isa deficiency of digestive power, the effect of the tonic is to stimulate a desire for food. In nineteen cases out of twenty, headache, nausea, nerVousness, fainting tits, spasme, and, indeed, ‘Wis Of The Casal Aches ahd pains to which huma.lty is subject, proceed primarily from indigestion complicated with biliousness ; aud for both these complaints Hostetter’s Stomach Bitte: s are recommended as a speedy and certaln remedy. $75,000 Gold Coin. &.
