Aid to the French.
____The French residents of the United
States are—contributing torelieve
their native land of the burden imposed upon their country, by the late
wat, and paying off the indemnity.
We saw yesterday a list at Mr. A.
Jsoard’s,upon which subscriptions to
the amount of about $200 have
already been made. They also propose to put up at raffle about 25 priyes which were not culled for at the

A Fierce Assault.
On Tuesday night two Chinamen,
fii Hock and Ah Loon had a difficulty over a game in Chinatown.: Yes~ terday morning Hi Hock went to the
cabin of Ah Loon, on Deer Creek,
below the Foundry, and found bis
manin bed. He madea fierce assault upon him: with a hatchet, cutting him on the side of the head and
cutting through the blankets. A com’ plaint was yesterday lodged before
Justice Rolfe, charging Hi Hock
with assault with intent to murder,
and a warrant for his arrest put into
the hands.of Marshal Getchell. __
Preaching. ;
Rev. Rett Meyer has opened an
Evening School, in the Room. adjoining the.-Theatre, for the purpose
of teaching German, French, Spanish, Italian, Latin and Greek. His
terms are $1 50 per month. :
On every Sunday afternoon he will
preach, in German, at the Congregational Church, _commencing at 2
o'clock. .
On Sunday morning at 90’clock,
he will opena Sunday School, at
the room adjoining the Theatre.
On Sunday afternoon he will preach
in French, at the same place, commencing at 4 o’clock.
