The Nevada ‘Quarts Mine.
i
.The Nevada Quartz mine’ is what
was in early times knowns as the
” Soggs’ mine, and is located on the
north bank of Deer Creek, opposite
the Providence. Since it was worked by Soggs & Co, it. hés passed
through various hands, lis aving been
sold at Sheriff's sale, ete. , Mntil some
‘time since it was taken’ ‘éhafibe of by
Mr. Berry.
WHAT WAS DONE:
When Mr. Berry took oe arge of
the mine, the mill was” dilapidated;
aid, the works generally in decay.
‘No work had been
quence below the bed of the creek.
“The mill. and hoisting Works were
put in-exeeHent repair and. an*iucline
commenced,UNDERGROUND:
The incline was sunk 200-teet; and
a south*tunnel run towards the creek

the Providence miné, and-—opened
@f the latter, The
rock 1s rich and filled with sulphurets, andl the millis now at work up_efi this rock.
THE. MILD. AT it
The Nevada mill, as “we have
stated, was thoroughly overhauled
and repaired by Mr. Berry. The
battery has a simple self-feeding arrangement, which saves considera+
ble work, the feeding being regulated
by the drop of the stamps. They
have a rock breaker, rubbers, two of
sulphuret savers, and
other arrangements fcr saving gold.
MITCHELL'S PAN;
MrsMitchell, of this city, has one

The sulphurets: are Worked in his
pan, which consists of tg¢ast iron

sand is carried by the water over the
rim of the pan, and the sulphurets
settle in the bottom: The quicksilver is not subjected to the grinding
process, and is ul saved. ‘Phis pan
is pronounced by those who have
seen it the best in use.
THE PROSPECTS.
Now that the mine has been openéd below the bed of the creek, the
prospects are better than ever before, and there is little doubt but
that under the management of Mr.
