Chunk of Gold. We saw a beautiful lot of gold, yesterday, which was valued at $2,560, the result of ten days work ina placer claim, near this city. There are so many thieves hereabouts, that we were requested not to state the claims from whence it came, for fear o _of the place being visited by some of . ’ the light fingered ruffians. Our quartz and placer claims are paying well, but owners of mines \refrain from giving the items for fear of being robbed. ~Virs: Catard was yesterday arrest-+ ed upon complaint of W. M. For a long time past the neighbors and passers by have been much annoyed .by the inmates of this house, and these proceedings are instituted on this account. She was taken before Justice Rolfe, who ordered her to appear for trial at 10 o’clock this morning. Lodged in Jail. § The burglar arrested in Sweetland was brought over and lodged in jail yesterday. When caught he had $250 sewed up im his pockets. He had been ‘horsewhipped,-and his back is still sore from the effects. Upon his person was--found a silver dollar and a sovereign which were stolen from Mr. Sweetland, also a screw driver, keys, rings etc. He is probably an old hand at the business, The Meeting This Evening. The grain fields at Sutton’s ranch and other places between this and Grass Valley, are looking very fine, and the crops in the lower part of the county are said te look better than for several years. The farmers have splendid prospects. Mining Location. The Blazing Star Gold Quartz Mining Co. have located 1,500 feet. -on the Inkerman ledge, two and a half miles southwest of Grass Valley, . in Grass Valley township, for quartz mining purposes. No Mails. The Eastern mail failed to arrive in this city yesterday. We have not learned the cause, but we know that these who have charge of the mails on the cars; frequently cause delays by neglect of duty. 2 Mining Patent. / Yesterday a patent to the Allison Ranch mine was filed for record in the County Recorder’s office. The pateat was issued to F. 8. Malone, Wm. Watt and Mrs. Daniels. > ' Forwarding Merchants. We call attention to tlie advertisemient of Hayferd, Himes & Co., in this morning’s Transcript.
