of our Republic, it seems doubly sag.
Far away from kin and family, with
doctor and assistant, this old man,
feeble and worn out, closed his earthly career without a blessing or a friend
to shed a tear. It cast a gloom over
the camp which was noticeable in nearly every face. The body remained in
the rooms he had occupied which are
on the ground floor in the right wing
of the Hotel and almost within reach
of the tap where great numbers of
people stop to‘drink the water. After
the death and before the removal of
the body, which was shipped some
time in the night, but few passed that
way to get water, but those who did
went quietly past the room with that
feeling of reverence and awe which
possesses all in the presence of death.
rushing world and this case was no
exception.
Next night cards, music and danca dispatch from Sites made everybody
hold their breath in surprise, alarm
and fear. The news was to the effect
that the team had ran away, turned
the stage over and smashed the passengers. D. Miller, owner and manager of the line, was at this end of the
route. He immediately repaired to
the scene of the disaster, but no further news was obtained till next day.
An extra came in the morning with
mail and baggage, but no passengers.
From this source we learned the
following particulars: Ata station six
miles from Sites the driver pulled up
the team and dismounted to water
them. The water is taken from a well
and has to be pumped up at the expense of time and labor,” While doing
this two boys mounted on horses suddenly emerged from the woods shouting and yelling at each other and riding at full speed. At this the stage
team of six horses took fright and
plunged down the road like mad. The
stage was twice rolledover and
smashed into kindling wood. Fortunately three passengers had gotten
out and were pacing up and down the
road when the team started. There
were on board three ladies, a baby
and two gentlemen. The man who
was oh the top jumped and got off

her baby were found buried beneath
the wreck, but neither one hurt beyond a scratch on the baby’s head and
a few marks and bruises on the mother. The third lady got out without
anything more serious than a scare
and shaking up. How on earth anyone got out with life or sound limb is

night save the lady who was go seri

Sites for treatment. When they arrived the whole community were out
to receive them. ~ They were kept
busy an hour or more answering
questions and telling how it happened
till they were plumb worn out and

were surrounded by men and women
who wanted to kiss the child and congratulate the mother.

How to Reach ‘Them.
Advertisers may reachi certain classes in special hewspapers, and find a
restless class of not very thorough
readers in our great valleys, but if
they wish to speak home, to find the
bone and sinew of the country, to get
at the producers, they should sack
space in*our interiorlocal papers. All
gvod people in the country take a home
paper, and believe in it as they believe
in their church, their courthouse or
their post-office, It is an institution.
It interests everyone, from the minister or lawyer to the blacksmith.

conquered ‘city was not beaten to a
