GRAY is our authorized. agent. He will receive orders for advertising, job work, d&e. and receipt for the same. Siaaseaelaaaneanadeiamicaeatieeesieatnaeieaierateecniae eee cee CoprER.—The accounts received lately ~—~from the lower portion of our county are ~~“wartainly very flattering to the copper interests. For” sometime past but little bas been published of the progresa made in this branch of mining, owing to the fact that “poet Of The WHErENOIderE Wets Taboring nen . and work had to be suspended from time to time in order that the ownerscould do something else te . procure the necessary means for the development of their. claims, aud as a necessity shares were sold in the Weil and other leads at teduced figares.— This difficulty is now, hewever, ‘at an end, and work has been resumed on nearly all the claims. In the Well lead, the shaft has Been , sunk a few feet deeper, the result of which ig they have strack copper ore far exceed~ ing io richness theit must sanguine expecs _____ tations. Indeed-it ig “boldly asserted that * nothing as yet discovered in the State can equal it, and that in a short time the Well lead will rank with the leading copper mines inthe country. We are glad to hear of the success of thie Claim, a8 others in the immedi te vieinity will be stimulatedby~the good luck of the Well company te give their ground a thorough prospeeting. Good croppinge have been found, and nearly all the shafts that have been sunk; give favorable ind:cationsa as far as prospeeted. To suppose that the . rietor. To show tae character of the men who conduct that slatiderous organ, we give a few extracts from the Santa Cruz Sentinel. If the District Attorney in that section does his duty the editor of that delectable sheet has a fair prospect ahead for a svjourn at San Quentin. But to the extracts. Says the Sentinel: ‘The editors of the Pajaro Times ‘aroeait suit against the county of Santa Cruz. and were Yay vevenge ary eet t— termined to demolish Judge Blair wto rendered the decision averse to them. . Te show that the Judge is inevnaistant, they eay that they -consulted-hirn-in-the cnae just previous to hie taking bis seat as Judge, und that they getirom hin aa opinion tavorable to their cause. For what reason did they wish to consult Judge Blair, when the case must come betore him on appeal? Did they wish to bribe him? Were they aware that the Legislature, last winter, passed a stern. statute cn erimes and punishments. which was expreaaly intended te meet just euch. a cae as theirs’ See Chap. 419 of Laws of 1863, which makes it a crime punishable by tourteen yeors imprisonment in the State Prisou, te attempt, even indirectly, to bias ths opinon of a Judge. ‘Phe new District Attorney is determined to show no faver te culprits. Agujn, the Sentinel says that indecent caricatures, with citizens names written upon them, were found posted on the houses and fences in Santa Cruz. The Sentiael saya: Apparently as part and parcel of these periermances, on Tuesday morning, was found pos'ed on the fences aod upon tue very doors of sewe of our must reepectable citizeus, & printed —plaeard,tull-of indecent inuto undermine purity, engender cxlumuy and slander, and produce enmity. We -biush—te—ssy—this contaminating placard bears evidence-of having been priut ed at the establishment o! the Pajaro ‘Times. Again che Sentinel says the principal editor of the Times is getting insane on the sub: jeetof slander, for.he is pouring it torth with Rusto Upon the Board of Supervisors, Judge and others in that county. THe STEAMER “Wasiive.” —This steamer was launched at San Francisco on Tuesday lastat llo'clock. Quitea large number of Nevadans were on bourd at the time.— Everything that could be-done towards the completioa of the boat while ou the stecks was finished up in fine style. The steamer, by those who have seen her, is said to be the finest that has ever been placed on the: Sicramento river. The boat wi'l moke her first trip to Sacramento on Saturday, April 16th, one week irom tu-morrow, if nothing bappens. Capt. Geo. W. Kidd, the owner, will command the “Washoe,” and he is determine ed that this boat shall not share the fate of the “Nevada.” The Cuiptain commanded steamer on the Mississippi-_for several years, previous-to his coming to this State, and of course bas large experignce in that line-— We are confid -.t Kidd will make the steamer a perfect success, as he dees everything he takes hold of. Express.—D. Crittenden, an old, Neva» dan, was in town afew days ago to make arrangements for the establishment of a branch office of the Pucific Express Co. in this city., We understand, in all probability, the office will be at the Union Hotel, adjoining the stage office, but nothing defin:te was dune about it. Mr. Criftenden has gone to Virginia to open an office at that place immediately, when he will return and complete arrangements here. _ CommMumcations.—Of late we have re« ceived quite a number of communications from various parts of the county, aud on va» rious subjects. We say now, once for all, we will not publish anything ofthe hird unless accompanied by the paine of the suthor. We would like to have correspondente _im the various towns, but writers must serd . ‘their names along. zi Tun FLAG ts UP.—The eplendid flag pretented to the National Exchange’ by Mrs. R.
