THE CHINESE Scuoo.—On Wednesday evening about. twenty-five Chinamen attended the School at. the
Methodist Church, and were instructed,
in the English language. ‘They take
great interest in learnin g, many of them
who haVe only. attended two or three
times being able to spell words of two
and three letters. Many teachers old
and young were present, and seemed to
take great.interest in instracting their

THE CAPITAL SAVINGS Bank.—The
attention of our readers is called to the

This institution is under the control of
responsible parties, and is a sate place

to be deposited in San Francisco. All

Young Men’s Social Club, having the

away the site of the old Eagle saw mill

MULBERRY TREES.—There
been about 20,000 mulberry -trees—set
out in this vicinity during this season,
and no doubt many more have been
planted in other localities of the county,
The silk business is receiving the attention it deserves; and the people seem
determined that there shall be no lack
of food for the worms.
THe-County Ja1,—Eight prisoners
are now confined in the county jail, and
two of them only are charged with
grave. offences; namely: incest and
highway robbery. The number ‘is now
smaller than at any time in the past two
years. The average per weck has been
during that time from ten to sixteen;
Cot. H. H. Raymond, long known as
a citizen of this place, died at the Occidental Hotel, San Francisco, on Sunday the 21st of March, 1869.
—_-EuREKA MINE.—The result of the
last run of two weeks from the Eureka,
exclusive of sulphurets, was $23,000.—
The sulphurets yielded about $7,000
more.
NEw SaLoon.—Major Jack Downing
has recently been below and purchased
a‘stock of liquors. He will open & sas
loon, shortly, at his place on Pine street,
where the thirsty can be accommodated.
