Taylor as night wateb ut his foundry at Grass Valley, attempted to shout his employer on Sunday night last. The circumstances as we learn and Mr. Taylor thinking him not in'a condition to attend to his duties went to the Foundry about 10 o'clock on Sunday night in company with anuther man to relieve him. When they got to the place Bergen fired one shot. Tuylor then made himself known. Bergen replied, “You're the man I want tokill,” and fired three more’shots. : Fortunately none of the shots took effect. Bergen was afterward arrested and taken before Justice O'Connor for examination. HisS?TYLe.—The snarling puppy who has mistaken the editorial chair for his kennel, and new slings ink and filth for the Gazette, bandies the “line” in hie paper of yesterday. We suppose the fellow is afflicted with that style of argument and he ought to be encouraged. If we should “answer the fvol according to his folly,” we should say, ‘you're another ;” but we prefer to regard him as we would any other barking ear—with supreme contempt. Mven editorial cieanbee is crowded out today to make room fer two communications from Bridgeport township upon political matters. Ourcorrespondents are confident of the success of the regular Union ticket in that township. en % WE are informed that Judge Niles Searls is now on his way from New York to this city. .He has been absent about a year and a half, and during his stay East has visited during the rebellion. He wiil be welcomed back by a host of friends. ADMITTED TO PRACTICE.—William. J. Beggs, formerly, editor uf the Gazette, was yesterday admitted to practice in the Distriet Court. We understand he proposes to open an office in this city. — THE. celebrated. Dutch Gap Canal is a complete success ; many vessels have passed through it, and its value to oving is said to be immense.
