The Mohican quartz mine at the
head of Gold Flat has-been leased by
the owner, Johii B. Byrne, to a company of practical miners, comprising
John Reseigh,’ Chas, Allen, Patrick
Whalen, Kdnitnd Orchard, Wm.
Richards and Jacob Malet. They
take it for a term of fifteen months

a mammoth quartz ledge near Washington, 20 miles east of this city.
‘The rock pays $7 per ton, but can be

Fined for Battery.
»Two men got into an altercation at
the corner of Pine and Commercial
streets day before yesterday evening,
and one knocked the other down.
Later at night the latter hunted
around the streets for the party who
struck him saying he ‘‘wanted to
lick the ——,.” Hefound him,
and got a severe pounding. After
being whipped the second time, he
was arrested by officer Scott and
locked” up. Upon being: released
yesterday morning he swore out a
complaint agaimst hisassailant who
was taken before Jadge Garthé,
plead guilty to the charge of battery,

floor of some business block in Nevada suitable for opening an office to
