Tue bill pensioning the Mexican War Veterans has passed the Senate atlast. It is somewhat changed froin the original draft as passed by the House. There was a tendency to load it down with riders of such an obnoxious nat as to virtually kill the bill. A conference committee has been appointed, so there is an opportunity: to'pass the bill and do long-delayed justice to some of the noblest and worthiest men of the country. The men who endured the dangers and hardships of a war that added half a nation to our domain are surely worthy of more coasideration than they have been receiving from their country. It is an act of tardy justice that will meet with universal approval. “Yus, sir,” said the sailor, ‘‘T have seen a whale that could swallow a boat.’’ ‘‘Oh, that noth. ing,” saidthelandsman, ‘I have seen a smallman who'couldswallow, a schooner.”” : r] nice Moqoupee Mesbaueotie yHonad AW + id. av 2 ua! *@a =O, A.
