Tue bill pensioning the Mexican
War Veterans has passed the Senate atlast. It is somewhat changed froin the original draft as passed by the House. There was a
tendency to load it down with riders of such an obnoxious nat
as to virtually kill the bill. A conference committee has been appointed, so there is an opportunity:
to'pass the bill and do long-delayed justice to some of the noblest
and worthiest men of the country. The men who endured the
dangers and hardships of a war
that added half a nation to our domain are surely worthy of more
coasideration than they have been
receiving from their country. It
is an act of tardy justice that will
meet with universal approval.
