if you don’t want to get bitten. ‘The
stock market of last week was, upon
the whole, one of the most ex~eiting that we have had for the whole

four days it was ‘‘On, Stanley, on,"'

the big rise was coming, earlier probably than was expected by at least a

welcome on that account. But Fri. .
«day's and Saturday's market, theugh
jt did not dissipate their faith in the
good time coming, undoubtedly
weakened it very materially as to
~whether they were not rather permatute in their epiniens. As is quite
usual, and perfectly natural at such
‘times, a variety of reasons were snggested as to why and wherefore, but
the general conclusion arrived at

1873, which was up to that time un"‘precedented. The immense sbipments in that year and the large

materially to go through the panic,
cand strengthened the farmers greatly.
Last year, however, there were &ne

The Grass Valley Union has already

Napoleon is the hero of a little adventure, which has the merit of being
troe. A few days ago Dr. Russel
Reytiolds was being driven in
a four-wheeled--cab--from—Cherl‘ton Station, near Blackheath,
Evgland, The horse became restive
and ran away, and the position of affairs was critical, for not far off there
was a precipitious unprotected bank.
Over this the animal would certainly
have plunged had not its progress
been stopped by the young Prince
Louis Napoleon, who happened to
be close by; sprang forward, seized
the horse by the head, end piled
him up. The Prince whe was dragged along the muddy road for a considerable distance, was not recognized by the’ gentleman whose life he
had thus gallantly saved at the risk
ef losing his own, and when askever, giving it, that he was very glad
to have been of some service, and
that doubtless they would meet
