Mesers. Painter & Durand will give one of
their excellent entertaininents in this city,
for thé benefit of John C. Findley, whose
house and furniture was destroyed by fire a
short time ago. He has a wife and family
broken up by the fire. The performance
formed by Painter and Durand being well
worth the price of adiwission.
nessing a gbod performance, those who . ‘attend the Theatre to-night will contribute
toa worthy object. Previous to the performance in the Theatre Mr. Wm. Painter
will walk a tight repe stretched from the
top of the Theatre. We hope to see a
crowded house. ;
RETURNING:—On Sunday last, two
large teams passed through this city loaded
with groceries and provisions from Aurora,
Nevada. The owner hus been’ engaged in
business in that place, but found it too dull,
and’ came over with his “duds” to open
store at Grass Valley, from which place
he emigrated on account of dull times, several years ago. He, like a good many other citizens of Nevada county, has tried his
luck in other regions, and failing to find
any place where as great inducements are
offered, has returned to his old bome. -A_
great many men in this county who are now
getting along prosperously, have wandered
in different new mining sections, but found
no place equal to Nevada.
A Goop Ruyx.—On Sunday last, after a
run of one week, the Banuer Company took
vut about $3,300 at their new mill, whieh
ig ~ituated at the mine. This ledge is one
of the best in the couuty, on account of its
size and the uniformity of the pay. Besides
Yielding this amount ut the new mill,pStiles’
will bas been kept in constant operation
bottom of the incline they are taking out
reck superior to any yet found, and the
drifts are atsy giving excellent ore. In
a few years the Banner mine will show as
goud.a record as the oldest and best quartz
lead in the county.
Suort or Irems.—The Grass Valley
Union is short of items. ‘The reporter wandered from one end vf Mill street. to the
other, a day or two since, and did’nt get
“the croppings.” We advise him to take
refuge in the “gray coat” of the carrier, or
fall back upon the “‘flag:stuff” of the Union
Guard. If these don’t suit, give Gilman
and his cheap cash store another lift. You
might treat your readers to “Another Rolley,” or astory about “Ye Jerkers.” These
‘things might do to “fall back upon,” in the
absence of “Great Discoveries,” or “Banner,” “Mobawk," or other valuable mioes
in your locality, “Git out!” Mr. Man, and
don’t talk. tous about scarcity of items.—
Withsuch resources at command you ought
not to complain.
Tae NATIuNAL GuAKD.—The Fourth
Brigade of the Mational Guard, General
Howell, commanding; is nowfully organined and we underetan] the officers will be
commissioned in @ short time, As soon as
the cummissions are issued by the Governor, the military companies of Placer and
Nevada counties with the Camptonville
company will be organized into a regiment
and field officers elected., These companies
ure as large and well drilled as any in the
State, and they will form an excellent
regiment.
