The Chief ‘ ‘Rite Central Pacific Railroad Company LOCAL AFFAIRS, “foe MaRterTa.—We fare told by a gentleman who recently visited the Marietta ledge, at Diamond Creek, that it is the richest mine fur the depth reached, that he has ever seen. The shaft is now down twenty feet below the surface, and at the bottum the ledge sparkles like gold’ stone with the virgin. metal, The ledge is large and well defined and can be wurked to excellent advantage. A number of yeurs ago a ledge was worked near, Diamond Creek but alter some time, owing to mis management, the claim was abandoned, and the mill sold. Until recently little notice has. been taken tuken of ‘the numerous the Marietta has awakened a new iuterest and -the people of Omega and viciuity have started to prospecting again. . We believe that guod mines will yet be opened in that locality,-aud such discuveries as this will hasten the day of prosperity by exciting the miners to renewed efforts. THE San Juan TxaveL.—The stages to and from San Juan willbe run over the road, via Black’s bridge, without: interruption. Both the lower stringers uf the bridge _4re broken from dry rot, and it is held only by the upper ones, so ths! it is unsafe to} cross. ‘It will take sometime to repair the structure but in the meantime travel will not be unterrupted. Mr Hamilton, propri-etor of the atage line came up yesterday, and started the stages through. When they arrive at the bridge the horses will be unhitched aud taken out, and the stage drawn over without its load. -In-this-way-the-pnesengers will run no risk of being injured, and willonly be detained a few moments at the bridge. By any other reute the distance to San Juan is nearly doubled. SENTENCED,— Yesterday, Milton 8. Price, whe robbed the cabin of Mr. Sherwood, fome time since, above Moore's Flat, was sentenced by Judge Niles to ten years imprisonment in the Penitentiary. This term commences at the expiration of the term for whieh Price is already under sentence, for cattle stealing ia Yuba county. Price's accomplice, Pinkston, was sentenced for a term of seven yeurs, at the last term of the Couoty Court. These parties were breught trom the State Prison to be tried for the robbery of Sherwood's exbin, while they were serving outa term there. THE Wuicuam Lepce.—The Whigham Ledge is new turning out very excellent rock, which bids fair to fully equal in yield the quartz taken out in its pelmiest days.— The last crushing at the French mill yielded about $75 te the ton, and the rock now being fakes out ie superior to that lot. A number ef magnificent specimens: containing free gold have recently been found in the. bottom of the ineline. RETURNED.—A telegram was received by Henry Philip of this city, on Monday, announcing the arrival of H. Mackie and family, and’ James Whartenby, in, San Francisco, These parties have made a visit te the Sandwich Islands and back in & sailing vessel. They are expected here about the last of this week.
