_ FRIDAY, AUGUST 15, 1884. Tae Hin. Martio [1 Townsend, while addressing a Blaine and Logan meeting, said: ‘They say that Jas. G. Blaine is so impure that they cannot support him, I saw,” said he, “Mr, Blaine rise in his chair with the Mulligan leters in his hand an demand that they be read and spreac upon the record, and then and there he publicly defied the world to produce a word against him, ‘They were read by everybody, Republican and Democrat, Mr. Curtis included. And yet the demand for the nomination of Mr, Blaine went up in 1876 snd ~ again in 1889, and all thought him the most perfect of men until after “the Chicago Convention.” Tan editor of the Chicago Tribune sends word to the Republican ‘National Committce that the labo: revolt in his city against Cleveland appears to be universal, The mold ers, shoemakers, coopers, tanners, painters, stock-yard men, and » ‘dozen Unione and labor organizations, which have hitherto giver cordial support to the Democracy have, during the week, declared for Blaine anil Logan. Porutar thronicles record that there was once a terrible fellow who wanted to thrash another fellow, but, finding himself not altogether equal to the occasion, determined at least that he would make faces at the other fellow’s sister. G. William Cartis seems to hold toward the Republican party just now a position very much like that of the terrible fellow. By mutual agreement between the two parties the active canvass in Indiana will not be begun until the last of August. Mr. Hendricks will goto the seashore for awhile, but will return home, it is said, in season to take part in the campaign. ao Tue prohibition movement, organized in Indiana, has completely fiz_gled out. The old prohibitionists who have always voted for prohjbition on principle declare they will not rap a side show tc the Democratic cirous any longer. Tux New York Sun(Dem.) eays : “The hostility to Mr, Cleveland among prominent members of his own party exceeds all former ani mosities that we have ever known toward a Democratic officeholder,” <-> 2 Nerrner Governor Cleveland nur ‘ex-Governor Hendricks made any allasion to their Independent admurérs in bis speech of acceptance. They are Democrats now, and have always been Democrats. em ———_ > 2 {r is said that the first request of St. John, the Prohibitionist candidate, received after his nomination, was for his photograph from a saloon keeper, who wanted to stick it up behind his bar. t TS ABSCONDED.
