as everybody beliewe:, by Mr. White

be compelled, very reluctantly, to

Bemao re,
Look out for all kinds ef rumors
betweeo now and election time.—
There will be more of them than a
man can shukea stick at, much less
anewer. The best way to treat rumors ix to vote the Democratic ticket.
That is safe, this year, on all questions, and especially oa the Seuntorial artengembent. divans Valley Undun.
*-¥es, Republicans will look oat for
all kiuds of rumors, as they usually
euunate from Democratic sources,
“Vote the Democratic ticket is the
best way to treut ramors,” says the
Yuion, That remedy is worse than
the disexse. Every legislative candidute elected this dull will have a
vote for United States Senator. ‘The
people are hot prepared vet to substitate a Demoerat for a Republican,

Acting Secretary McCormick has
issued a circularto employes of the
Teeasury Department, stating that the
ecedi¢t of the Government requires
that its dutics be performed by hunorable men; that the Seeretary would
not be annoyed by creditors seeking
their just dues from clerks; that it
wes expected thut all just debts
would be paid, and that if clerks refase to pay just debts they would be
churged w'th fraudulent practices and
recommended for the diswissal by
the chiefs of the respective bureaus,
Thus will it be seen that in future

. please tell us how Mr. Bacon stands
on the Senatorial question ?
In the first place, is it any of your
business? Of course you will say
the people want to know, and therefore we will answer: the question,
not to please you, however. Mr.
B F. Bacon isthe regular nominee
of the Republican party, and it~ will
be admitted, without argument, that
the people of Nevada county are
going to honor themeelves by electing him, He is avintelligent man,
knows the wants of the people, .and
will not misrepresent them in any
way. He never was known to go
back on h‘s word, but has ever been
faithful to the trusts reposed ip bim.
-Kaowing all hie good qual, fications,
the Republican Convention nominated him ug one of their standard
bearers, and they did nobly in «a»
doing. Ino regard to the Senatorial
question, which troubles the beguiling editur of the Union, we have
just this to say about Mr. Bacon’s
position. When approached in regard to his position on the Senatorial
question, the day before he was
nominated, he. replied: “I am a
candidate for the office of Assemblythao, but, if in order-to procure
that nomination, I: must pledge myself for, or against any man for the
United States Serate, I will not yo
into the Convention. If nominated,
I must be free and untrammeled; but
this much I will say. I will vote for
the best Republican candidate for
that position, and have no idea who
will be my choice, at the present
time.” That is Mr. Bacon’s position
to-day, and if by: pursuing « different course his election would be assured beyond peradventure, he
woutd not deviate from it: Mr. Ba-con is not a demagogue, and he
spuras the office if it must be obtained by trickery and misrepresentation. The Grass Valley Union is
determined not to dojustice to any
candidate on the Republiean ticket,
and will keep on questioning their
honesty and integrity, so long as it
is paid to circulate “1,000 extra
copies.” :
Another one of those combustible
packages was found in A. Lones’
yard, on Monday morning. It had
evidently been thrown op the porch
the night before. It was made a
little differentfrom those found on
Broad street. The one picked up by
Mr. Lones was made of heavy brown
paper, thoroughly saturated with
ed with browa tissue paper, end ate
attached thereto with a string, was
about @ dozen matches, which’ had
burned about half way down. The
matches wefe probably lit before
being thrown on the porch, and
went out before igniting the paper.
It is a hellish piece of businées, on,
she part of those who try to destroy
property, and we hope they will be
detected and reeive the punishment
they deserve.
