was on the free train’ Thursday evening, jimped from the car about
half a mile this side of Grass Valley,
in order to recover his hat which had

stepped off towards the rear of .it.
He was sent whirling over the rough
ground, and finally anchored on his
face which was somewhat bruised.
It is a mystery how -he avoided receiving serious injuries. Picking
himself up he walked into Grass

From a **Werthiess” Mine.
An $1,800 gold brick on the~-table}
of the Citizens Bank yesterday deserves more than, passing notice because of its origin. It was taken
from a newly developed quartz claim
that autil a short time since was declared utterly worthless. The mine
is situated within a mile of Nevada
City, and is now a regular bullion
producer.
