NEVADA CITY, CAL.
LOCAL AFFAIRS.
Robert Bell, Esq.
We give place to the following
¢ouimunication, which speaks for
itself, The writer is not alone in
nis enthusiastic praise of Mr.Bell,
Every body acquainted with that
gentlomam with whcm we have conversed speaks of Mr. Bell as a high
minded honerable gentleman, well
qualified for the position to which
he aspires+the Assembly—and devoted te the country of his adoption.
His nomimation was eminently fit to
be made. It isto be hoped that the
people of Nevada county will so vote
in September next as to secure the
wervices of Mr. Bell in the Assembly.
In these @ays of corruption, when
members ef the Legislature are
Yought amd sold like sheep in the
shambles, ttt Tehooves the people to
lect none but honest men to repre
sent them in the Legislature. With
Charles Kent in the Senate, and such
men as Robert Bell, Henry Everett,
J.M. Days, and Stephen Barker in
tthe House, the people need have no
fears that their rights will be frittered
away or their money squandered.
The following is the communicaWasurncton, Aug. 14,71871.
Editor Transcript: I have seen a
passing notice in ‘your journal, copied
from the Folsom Telegraph, comménding the election of Robert Beii
of Truckee to the position of Assemblyman. I will here assert that a
more honorable, upright, or consistent gentleman can not be found than
Mr. Bell. The writer of this knew
him intimately in Coloma from 1859
to 1865, and there is not a spot or
blemish to tarnish his character. As
a public officer, a thorough business
man, and as a private citizen he has
no superiors, and is deservedly es. .
teemed wherever he is known. Mr.
when he sided with the great Union
party of California; with which -erpresent day. An undivided Union
has ever been his motto, and the
Union party of Nevada county has
made an excellent selection in placlature. Mr. Bell is @ native of Ireland, and therefore has a special
claim to the suffrages of his fellow .
countrymen of Nevada county at the
coming election. As a friend to liberty and progress, he should be supported by them in preference to the
Democratic demagogues, who would
villify our nationality and all that
pertains thereto. TnisuMan.

Don’t Forget,
a grand illumination, and
torchlight procession, will take place
in this city on Saturday next, the
19th. Don’t forget that Senators
Nye and Cole, and J. L. Love are to
address the people on that evening.
Don't forget that an invitation is extended to every body to come and
listen to these champions while they
speak the truth, the whole truth,
and nothing but the truth. Come up
every body. All will be made welcome.

"As soon as an article purporting to be ef
utility has been tested, and its merits indorsed by public opinion, unprincipled parpurses by counterfciting, and substituting #
spurious for the genuine article. Some
time since, mercury, in the diaguiae of pilis,
powders, &c., was given for all diseases of
the stomach and liver, while quinine was
freely administered for the chills. At
length Hostetter’s Stoméch Bitters made its
advent, and an entiré new system of h2aling
was inaugurated. The beneficial effects of
this vaiuablépreparation” were “at o1ice
acknowledged, and mineral poisons suffered
to sink into that obscurity to “which an
enlightened age has consigned them. There
have been many spurious bitters palmed
upon the community, which, after trial,
have been found utterly worthless, while
Hostetter’s has proved a blessing to thousands, who owe to it their restoration to
health.
For many years we have watched the
steady progress of Hostetter’s Stomach
Bitters in public estimation, and its benificent effects as a cure for all complaints
arising from the stomach of a mopbid
nature, and we are free to say that it can be
relied upon as a certain relief and remedy.
Its proprietors have made the above preparation, after years of careful study and sitting, and are now reaping the reward claimed by this ‘valuable specific, and which they
so richly merit. Itis tne only prcparation
of the kind that is reliable in all cuses, and
it therefore demands the attention of the

PAIN KILLER.
PERRY DAVIS & SON,
PROVIDENCE, Rk. I.,
PROPRIETORS.
1840. 1871.
The “‘ Pars Kier” may justly be styled
the great medicine of the world, for tuere
is no region of the globe into which it has
not found its way, and been largely used
aud highly prized. Moreover, tuere is no
clime tu waicn it has nut proved tu be well
adapted for the cure of # considerable variety of diseases; it is a speedy and safe
remedy for burns, scalds, cuts, bruises,
wounds, and various other injuries, as well
as tur dysentery, diarrhuwea, und bowel complaints generally, it is adwirably suited fur
every race of men on the face of the globe.
it_is a very significant fact, that notwitnthe long period of years that tha
“Pain Riller” has been befere the world,
it has never lost one wae of its popularity,
but, om the contrary, the cali for it has
steadily increased fruin its first discovery‘
and at no previous tinie has the demand for
it been so great, or the quantity made beep
80 large, as to-day.
Anvther dapat icant fact is, that_nowhere
has the Pain Killer ever been in higher-repute, or been more geuerally used by families and individuals, than it has been here
at home, where it was lirst discovered anu
introduced. That the Pain Killer will continue to be, what we have styled it, THE
GREAT MEDICINE: OF THE WORLD, there can
not be the shadow of a doubt.—{ Providence
