NEVADA CITY, CAL.
LOCAL AFFAIRS.
‘Leaving the Foul Party.
All ever the State, from every
county and town, cgities the glorious
tidings that men, heretofore acting
with the Democracy, are declaring
themselves for Booth and the whole
Republican State ticket. In this
city alone, the names of at least
twenty voters, who have never heretofore voted anything but a Democratic ticket, have been given to us,
who now declare they will vete for
Newton Beoth for Governor. In
North San Juan, of this county, we
know of eur own knowledge of sevyenteen who have never as yet voted
any ticket other than the Democratic,
that now declare for Booth and the
whole Republican State ticket. We
could give the names of the men in
this county who have deserted the
sinking ship of Haight, but for-prudential reasons we withhold them.
Wecould tell of one man at North
San Juan, who fought the battles of
Democracy all through the war of
the rebellion, and at one time during
that dark péried in our history, was
2 candidate for office on their county
ticket, whe now declares that as the
Democracy have taken a “mew departure”’ from their former principles, and have acknowledged themselves of having heen in errer, during
the war, he cannot any lenger act
with them; that.as they, the Democracy went more than half way into
Republican ranks in taking their
new departure, he weuld go the whole
length; that he had stuck to the De“mmocracy as long as they had a principle to cuntend fer, but now~that
they had departed from all principle
and were only fighting for the spoils
of office, he could net and would not
act longer with them, but would
hereafter act with a party of princi_
ple. -Thereare hundreds, if not
thousands of veters all over the State,
that reason precisely as this San
Juaner does, and who. will, on election day, follow hisexample. Things
look cheering, and if Republicans
will but do their duty, Newton Booth
will be our next Governor.

‘Whenever Judge Stidger ( who is
on the Nevada Transcripr in the
absence of Bro. Deak) writes on subjects net connected with politics, he
gives practical and sensiblé ideas,
which are worth the serious attention ef all who have the interests of
the county at heart. His political
disquisitions, however, will _ prove
delusive and snaring to all who foldow them.—G. V. Union.
{Whenever Rufe Shoemaker (who .
ison the Grass Valley Union in the
absence of Bro. Byrne) confines him‘self to writing funny locals and farfetched ‘‘ puns,’’ he gives something
to his readers that causes merriment
and makes the Union a readable paper. But when he departs from his
locals and puns, and attempts to
write a political article, his pen
‘causes him to wander, in imagination of course, to the land of his
fathers, and then he looks through
“‘a glass darkly,’’ and sometimes it
aint.so dark, neither. Stick to your
locals and puns, Bro. 8., and we'll
commend you. We like them, espe‘cially the puns, if you do obtain
them second hand.

As soon as an article purporting to be ef
utility has been tested, and its merits indorsed by ‘public opinion, unprincipled parties Gideavor to replenish their depicted
purses-by counterfciting, and substituting a
spurious for the genuine--article. Some
time since, mercury, in the disguise of pills,
powders, &c., was given for all diseases of
the stomach and liver, while quinine was.
freely administered for the chills. At
length Hostetter’s Stomach Bitters made its
advent, and an entire new system of healing
was inaugurated. The beneficial effects of
this “valtible preparation were at once
acknowledged, and mineral peisons suffered
to sink into that obscurity to which an
enlightened age has consigned them. There
have been many spurious bitters palmed
upon the community, which, after trial,
have been found utterly worthless, while
Hostetter’s has proved a blessing to thousauds, who owe to it their restoration to
health.
For many years we have watched the
steady progress of Hostetter’s Stomach
Bitters in public estimation, and its benificent effects as a cure for all complaints
arising from the stomach of a morbid
nature, and we are free to say that it can be
relied upon as a certain relief and remedy.
Its proprietors have made the above preparation, after years of curcful study and sitting, and are now reaping the reward claimed by tois valuable specuic, and wnich they
so richly merit. Itis tae only preparation
of the kind that is reliable in ali cases, and
it therefore demands the attention of the
afflicted.
