Tue Democratic ANTIDOTE.—The
Democratic Legislature in 1853 at~
tempted to step Chinese immigration
by a law, and the Reporter makes a
pointon this. That paper says the Legislature of 1853 passed an act which it
was believed at the time would have
the desired effect. The sixth section

HeAvy Koppexy.—The Appeal says :
We learn that a bold and successful robbery was. committed on Friday last a
_. few miles below Colusa. -A day or two
previous to the robbery, a farmer, whose
bame our informant had forgotten. went
to Colusa and. svld bis entire crop of
grain for cash. After finishing his
business and receiving his money the
farmer went home, and some time during the oight his house was entercd by
a couple of masked men who demand<
ed his money or his life. Being help~
lees he was compelled by fear to hand
over the money he had brought from
Colusa—aboutthree thousand dollars.
The robbers undoubtedly. were well
posted as to the sale of grain and the
sum of money on the’ premises.
Union H1Lu.—Union Hill as a min~«

Butthe Act did not prevent Chinese

her limits, and a law to that effect was

ple of young men were driving out;
their horse showed signs of fatigue,
stopped, and refused to go any farther.
They procured some whisky and ad~
ministered it to the tired animal. Under
the exhilarating influence of the fluid
