The same night, two men, supposed to be the robbers, went to Holbrook’s house.at Ragon Flat, -which atthe time was occupied by two young girls and a small boy— their mother and the older boys being absent. They raised one or two of the windows and pulled aside the curtains, frightening the children very much; but finding the house was _occupied, the prowlers left. Personal. Rev. Mr. Blakesley, the -editor of . the Pacific, is now.in_this city on business connected with that excellent paper. He made us a call a day or two ago, to renew an acquaintance made over 20 years ago. traveling on the plains in 1849, wending our way to this State, we fell in company with Mr. Blakesley, travels. He was then a young man, wending his way to California for the purpose of doing his Master’s work, and in 1850 we had the honor of hearing him preach at Fostér’s Bar, in Yuba county, our then place of residence. We had lost sight of him for years, and hence was agreeably surprised to see him enter our Sanctum, <> Speaking at North San Juan. We again desire to call the attention of our friends at San Juan that Wallace Williams and John Caldwell, our candidate for County Judge, will address the people at that place tomorrow evening. Every body on the Ridge should turn ott at this nieeting, for we assure them by not doing so-they will lose a rich treat, Wallace Williams has no superior in the State on the stump or in forensic debate. He possesses a strong analytical mind, and is well posted on all political subjects. Let there be 4, rousing meeting to hear this champion. If the time was not too short we would advise a torchlight procession and illumination. Oakland School. The Oakland school, will open on Monday the 2Ist, with Miss O. E. Miller, one of the most accomplished ladies in this county, as teacher. Miss Miller is an experienced teacher, having taught school at this and other places in the county for several years past, and wherever she has taught she has given universal satisfaction. With Miss Miller as the teacher, the school ‘must prosper. Scarcity of Water. _\We are requested to say to the citizens of Nevada and vicinity, that in consequence of the scarcity of water, from and after to-day, no person will be supplied by the City Water Works . : for irrigation purposes. This course has been found necessary to take so as to protect the town from the dangers of fire. As soon as an article purporting to be ef utility has been tested, and its merits indorsed by public opittion, unprincipled parties endesvorto-replonish. their depleted purses by counterfciting, and substituting a spurious for the genuine article. Some time sinee; mercury; in-the disguise of pilts; powders; &c., was given for all diseases of the stomach and liver, while quinine was freely administered for the chills. At length Hostetter’s Stomach Bitters made its was inaugurated. The benefictn}-effects of this valuable preparation were at once acknowledged, and mineral poisons suffered to sink into that obseurity to which an enlightened age has consigned them. There have been many spurious bitters palmed upon the community, which, after trial, have been found utterly worthless, while Hostetter’s has proved a blessing to thouhealth. For many years we have watched the steady progress of Hostetter’s Stomach Bitters in public estimation, and its benificent effects as a cure for all complaints arising from the stomach of a morbid nature, and we are free tu say that it can be relied®upon as. a certain relief and remedy.
