} Robberies.
v On Wednesday night, some thirty
new drills, belonging to Mr. Thomyon, and which were used in working
a quartz mine at Ragon Flut, were
stolen from the shop near the mine;
and the same night the tool house at
Gentry & Co’s diggings, on” Ameri-~
can Hill, was broken opén, and some
clothing and other articles were car,
ried off. The same night, two men,
supposed to be the robbers, went to
Holbrook’s house.at Ragon Flat,
-which atthe time was occupied by
two young girls and a small boy—
their mother and the older boys being
absent. They raised one or two of
the windows and pulled aside the
curtains, frightening the children very
much; but finding the house was _occupied, the prowlers left.
Personal.
Rev. Mr. Blakesley, the -editor of .
the Pacific, is now.in_this city on
business connected with that excellent paper. He made us a call a day
or two ago, to renew an acquaintance made over 20 years ago.
traveling on the plains in 1849,
wending our way to this State, we
fell in company with Mr. Blakesley,
travels. He was then a young man,
wending his way to California for
the purpose of doing his Master’s
work, and in 1850 we had the honor
of hearing him preach at Fostér’s
Bar, in Yuba county, our then place
of residence. We had lost sight of
him for years, and hence was agreeably surprised to see him enter our
Sanctum,
<>
Speaking at North San Juan.
We again desire to call the attention of our friends at San Juan that
Wallace Williams and John Caldwell,
our candidate for County Judge, will
address the people at that place tomorrow evening. Every body on the
Ridge should turn ott at this nieeting, for we assure them by not doing
so-they will lose a rich treat, Wallace Williams has no superior in the
State on the stump or in forensic
debate. He possesses a strong analytical mind, and is well posted on
all political subjects. Let there be
4, rousing meeting to hear this champion. If the time was not too short
we would advise a torchlight procession and illumination.
Oakland School.
The Oakland school, will open on
Monday the 2Ist, with Miss O. E.
Miller, one of the most accomplished
ladies in this county, as teacher.
Miss Miller is an experienced teacher,
having taught school at this and
other places in the county for several
years past, and wherever she has
taught she has given universal satisfaction. With Miss Miller as the
teacher, the school ‘must prosper.
Scarcity of Water.
_\We are requested to say to the citizens of Nevada and vicinity, that in
consequence of the scarcity of water,
from and after to-day, no person will
be supplied by the City Water Works . :
for irrigation purposes. This course
has been found necessary to take so
as to protect the town from the dangers of fire.
Estray Animal. 4
Came to the stable of John Lancaster, of this city, a small white
taare, which the owner can have by
calling at the stable, paying charges
for keeping and this notice. There
ate no marks or brands upon her, but
has a sore back made by the saddle.

this valuable preparation were at once
acknowledged, and mineral poisons suffered
to sink into that obseurity to which an
enlightened age has consigned them. There
have been many spurious bitters palmed

Hostetter’s has proved a blessing to thouhealth.
For many years we have watched the

arising from the stomach of a morbid

PAIN KILLER,
PERRY DAVIS & SON,
PROVIDENCE, RB. 1,
PROPRIETORS.
1840. 1871.
The ‘‘ Pars Krier” may justly be styled
the great medicine of tne world, for there
is no region of the globe into which it bus
not found its way, and been largely used
and highly prized. Moreover, there is no
chine to which it has not proved to be well
adapted for the cure of « considerable variety of diseases; it isa speedy and sate
remedy for burns, scalds, cuts, bruises,
wounds, and various other 1pjurics, as well
as tor dysentery, diurrhwa, and bowel ¢olmplaints yeneraliy, itis admirably suited tor
every race of men on the face of the globe.
It is a Very significant fact, that notwitpstanding the long period of ycars that tha
‘Pain Killer” has been befere the world,
it bas never lost one whit of its popularity,
but, on the contrary, the call for it has
steadily increased from its first discovery*
and at no previous time has the demand tur
it been so great, or the quantity made becn
so large, a8 to-day.
Another significant tact is, that nowhere
has the Pain Killer ever been in higher repute, or been more generally used by tamiifes and individuals, tuan it has been here
at home, where it was first discovered and
introduced; “That the Pain Killer will continue to be, what we have styled it, THE
GREAT . OF THE WORLD, there can
not be the w of & doubt,—{ Providence
Advertiser.
