The Daily Transcript,
~ LOCAL INTELLIGENCE.
A New Sonoon H Hovsz.—We have
from. Oroville, a pamphlet, in which
the writer sets up the claim of being
the originator of the project of building a new school house in that city. The
people of Oroville have a fine school
Louse, and now everybody. is sodelighted that the origin of it has become a
matter of dispute. It will no doubt be
soin Nevada. ‘The School Trustece
have let a contract for building a fine
‘sehool house ; some people are com‘plaining shout the cost of it, and niisrepresenting the motives of Trustees,
but when the new building is completed, we'll bet a hat that a man cannot be found in the community who
will notclaim that he favored the building of the new house.

FEstivaL AND Bikivcion, —The
colored people of this city will give a
grand festival and exhibition for the
benefit of their pastor, Mr. Green, 'on
the 8d of September at Temperance
Hall. _ The exercises will consist-of masic, recitations, etc. A first rate supper
will "be provided. The admission to
the exhibition willbe 25 cents, and the
supper will be $1. Everybody is invited to come and get the money's
worth.
Tae Pacific Union E Express Company
has again placed us under obligations
for Sacramento and Bay papers in adaccommodating and gentlemanly agents
and we are glad to see it ay sgt cos
perous condition.
Parine Wins. We debieund
that the mines at Remington Hill,
Little York township, are paying first
rate this season. Two companies are
at work taking out considerable dust.
VucaL ILLUsioNs.—On Commercial
street, yesterday, we noticed a box of . .
onions at one of the vegetable. stands,
labeled vocal illusions. We never heard
them called by that name before, but
were aware of the fact that they gavea
fellow a very loud breath,

“A Poxicy of Lite Assurance is always
an evidence of prudent forethought ;
no man with a dependent family is free
trom reproach if not insured.” So says
‘Lord Lyndhurst, late Lord Chancellor
of England. R. A. Diver, Special
Agent of the St. Louis Mutual Life Insurance Company, is offering superior
inducements to applicants, and advantages to be derived by policy holders in
the Company which he represents.
CONGRESSMAN JOHNSTON, of the
Third District, passed through this city
on his way home yesterday. He will
probably: be relieved of his duties after
this term, as he. will be sueceeded by
Tae TRAVEL.—The amount of travel
is increasing. The Grass Valley and
Colfax stages came in yesterday loaded
with passengers. This ig unusual, as}
the warm weather and dusty roads have
put a quietus on travel lately,
Mixing Location.—A party of
Grass Valleyans have located sixteen
hundred feet on the Grass Valley Slide
Ravine. . They have called it the Beymour ledge, which is sufficient to make
it peter.
Deep of Trust. Wittien Waitt,
and others, owners of the Earcka mine,
have made a detd of trust to the Eareka Gold Mining (o., in consideration of
certificates of stock in said corporation,
which was recently organized under
_ the laws of this ‘State.
A Runaway.—Yesterday afternoon . 8,
a team, consisting of ten animals at
tached toa Prairie Schooner with tender, started from the National Exchange
Hotel fora run up Broad street. Unfortunately for local items, bat fortanately for the owner of the wagon,

TORTURE.—Who would endure the
torture arising from Chills and Fever,
when it can be easily cured ? :
‘Who would endure sleepless nights,
burning fevers and icy chills alternately, when a remedy can be obtained for
a trifle?
Who would wander like an uncertain shadow, never knowing what moment they may be prostrated ?
Who would be a burden to himself
and a burden to his friends, who ate
worn out in administering to his wants?
Who would live this life of agony .
when the great alterative and tonic,
HOST ETTER’S STOMACH BITTERS,
can be obtained at the nearest —
This long established and justly
nowned medicine has never been known
to failin a single case, and none but
the foolish and weak would hesitate to
procure it at once, and save themselves
torture. Pre‘pared aftera long experience and deep
study, it has received the enconiums
of the’ most eminent physicians, as well
