In the High School there . are forty pupils, six boys and thirty-four young ladies. Io Miss’ Hubbard's school there are eighty-five pupils, averaging under eight yeurs of age. The new school toon} ~builtby Mr. Hughes; will be completed by . Monday next. It is 26x40 feet. It has’ forty-two seats and the walls are’ supplied with a number of blackbeasds. This will be one of the most eumfortable and. eonvenient school roome in the éotinty, and will open with about-thirty pupils. These will increase the numberin the Nevada street building to’ one‘hundred ‘and fifty-five, Ineltiding the indimber of pupils iu. the. three uther schools inthe District, the total num. _ ber of children attending the Public Schools will be ia thenéighburhood uf two, hundred . and twenty4ive. 6 «iw ax em Rep DoG.—Red Dog presents a lively appearance at present. A large.number of men are engaged in. rebuilding the town, and it will svon look better than before it was burned. Combs & McGoun have put up 8 store 20x50 feet and before the end of the present week they will have a steck of goods on hand and be doing buciness again, W.A. Begole is putting up a tin shop ; P. Drunzer has‘a -hotel established temporarilly , and will soon commence the erection of a fine huuse which is to. be hard finished’ throughout. Allport is building a livery. stuble 60x35 feet and also a butcher shop. Many other buildings are being put up, and . We are informed a fine brick store house is to.he erected. The people of Red Dog are energetic and they will come out all mght in time. $s tian ‘POLL Taxes.—In giving the number of State Poll taxes sold in the county, yesterday, we made s mistuke of 1,000, but the xmount of méiéy received was correct — ‘The following are the exact figures: State poll taxes suld up to the first of August, 4,101. The amvuunt realized from State and county pull taxes, is about $16,404. About $1,600 more will be reslized trom these sources by the end of the year. The sale uf these. taxes tor the present year: will exceed last year’s sales by abuut 800, This is an evidence of the .increase ef population in the county. : Forwarvine House.—A new forwarding house will be upened next week at Colfax, by T. T, Davenport and Geo. A. Weaver. The firm willbe known as Datenport & Co. Mr. Davenport served-a.term as County Collector of this cuunty,.and Was for a number of years engaged in the grocery business in this city. Mr. Weaver. was also engaged for a number of years in the &rocery business in this place, Both gea~ tlemen are thorough business men, and are well known throughout the county. ee SALE OF A Mine.—On Monday last. a five-twelfthe interest in the Star Spangled Banner mine was sold by Geo. W. Kidd. Marsh and Crittenden were the purchasers. This is one of the best bargains that has been made in the county. The Banner dedge is from four to eight feet thick and _ Supplies enough good paying ore to keep . Baker two mills constantly employed. A DvuEL.—H.C. Street, formerly editor of the Marysville Express, fought a duel with aman named McConnell, in Idaho.—. Street is now editing the World.
