SeRrovs AcctpEnt.—On Thursday night John Belden of this city, met ‘o'clock, and went-to.Colfax tor the purpose of bringing up a load of butter. On arriving at the depot, about 16 o’elock, he made enquiries for a restaurant, and one was pointed out. He started, and being deceived by a shadow, stepped ‘off the platform and fell a-distance of three or four feet to the ground. He struck with his face upon a cast iron” Wheel, breaking his jaw bone, and bruising him considerably. His injuries though severe are not dangerous. He was brought up by Joe. Richo'clock yesterday morning. A Serious Accipent.—James Fost, driver of Gregory & Marsh’s-ox. team, had ‘a severe fall on Broad street yester-. day. The wagon was loaded heavily with spruce timber, such as is. used for street planking. It is 22 feet long and 8 inches thick. Fos got up and resting his foot upon two of the pieces, raised one of the top timbers to push it back. His foot slipped and he fell backwards to the street, the.end of the timber falling across his stomach and breast. Fortunately the fall of the timber was somewhat broken by the end striking the street. He was picked up in an insensible condition, and carulants. were administered, and he came No bones were broken, but he suffered internal pain, and it is feared. he sustained severe internal injuries. -.s Semae-<agpeige A NEW. They will print forty or more names upon the ticket, and each voter is to seratch off all bat: eight, which is the nuniber of delegates to be chosen. It may work well, but it is a new kink, and seems to usto be very demoralizing, as when scratching once starts there’s no telling when it will stop. epelahinaio THe Pine Street ScHoo~t.—The Pine street primary school will open on:} Monday morning, under charge of Miss La Grange, a sister of Gen. La Grange of Alameda county. She isa graduate of the Michigan State Normal School, and an experienced teacher. She holds &ceftificate from the State Board of Examination. : EasrERN Papers.—George R. New York Ledger, Tribune, Forney’s Press, and the Irish Citizen. Vore or THanks.—On ~ Thursday night last the Board of City Trustees gave Charley Kent a vote -of thanks for a lot which he donated the city, in order that: Nevada street might be “made straight.” The. grant enabled the city to build a first-rate bridge in the place of the crovoked, rickety structure that used to stand at the foot of Nevada street. _A VaLuaBLe Horse Losr—A valwable team horse belonging to Gregory 4& Marsh, and used in hauling Tumber, died. yesterday morning.
