Chas. Marsh, of ‘this city, “Hon,
Geo. C., Perkins, of Oroville, and
George W. Dixon, of Grass Valley,

The trial of .f Poumney, charged with
assault with intent to ‘murder, , was
set for ~ yesterday morning-at_ 10
_o’cloek in the County Court, but was
postponed to this morning in consequence of the absence of ‘some -witnesses for the defence.
_'. Busitiessis very dull in this city
at the present time, and unless the
railroad is built it will be duller yet,
and our people will-be compelled to
emigrate to some other point to make
a living.
Suicides are getting to be quite
common. in_Virginia City. _ _No_-dan.
ger of anything of that kind transpiring hereabouts for our people
seem to be too lazy to even subscribe
money fora railroad much less to
commit suicide.
Yesterday the last prisoner. except
_ one, having served out his term)«was
discharged. from the county jail:
That establishment has a solitary .
Chinaman from Truckee as the only
inmate. ©
The Gi. Valley road is not only
terrible rough but it is very dusty.
Nary drop of water has been put on
that road this season. No one goes
over it unless they are obliged to.
Doc. Hosmer, ° formerly of this
city, is ticket agent for Woodward’s
railroad, and has an office one block
beyond Woodward’s garden, San
Francisco.
Wm. Smith, ‘who vayebsdhondaty digHe arrived at New Orleans all right.
Ed. Goldsmith has gone to San
Francisco to buy a large stock of
goods for his brother, A. Goldsmith.
Look out for bargains when the new
goods arrive.
A French Grant and Wilson club
has been formed in this city and they
propose to do eftective work during
the campaign.
Dr. Kibbe, County Giclies has
gone to North San Juan to locate.
The Marysville Railroad.
We received a letter from J. E.
Magary on Tuesday evening last in
which he says:
not be afraid to subscribe for they
will not be called upon for the first
10 per cent. of their subscriptions =
until the surveys are made and work
commenced,’’ He further writes . /
that “‘the company will organize next,
week, and if favorable reports Are
received from Nevada and Grass Valley, begin work at once.” He also
informs us that another company is
being organized for the purpose of
building a narrow gauge railroad
through Yolo county,/
