TUESDAY, AUGUST 22. WHAT DOES IT MEAN ? President Bolles of the Excelsior Water and Mining Company, has is-, sued instructions to his water agent not to sell any more water to any hydraulic or quartz mining company, ee who has been supplied with water in the past —in fact to sell none to any one. There .is considerable exctitement amongst those who have depended upon water from this company. This strange order completely demoralizes * them. What doesit, mean? Does injunction suits restrain him from selling any of the water and that it must run to waste? This isa very high handed proceeding, and'works a great hardship upon parties who do business on the line of the ditch. It appears to us thst an explanation 8 from Mr. Bolles isin order, and we would like to hearfrom him at _ the same time in relation to the statement made by Senator Davis of Yuba, that he (Bolles) regarded the decision of Judge Temple as wise and just: Our informant says that he and others depend upon water from the Excelsior Company, and if it is the determination of Mr. Bolles to shut them off, they will immediately make arrangements to run other water to their properties and will see that no malicious suits will prevent them from using it. + FRESE RS ESN “LAWLESS AND CRIMINAL.” The Marysville Appeal, the tool of the would-be property wreckers, says “that the laboring men in the hydraulic mines are engaged in a lawless and criminal occupation, and ‘ 4m doing such business must be’ prepared to take the consequences.” Did the editorof that lying sheet have instruction to villify a class of men who are the peers of anti-miners now engaged in a malevolent attempt is vob the miners of their property? If it did, ic will not prove tu be s as one-sided figat. The charge is in7 famous, and is a cowardly attack upon a cless who are legally and legitimately earning a livelihood for themselves and their families. The miners have a right to hydraulic, an occupation that has been followed by them for the last thirty years, and never considered ‘“‘lawless and criminal” until within a year, and then only by a set of men whose’ opinions about the fitness of things would not be respected by the lowest bummer who walks our streets. A business that called the people to this State, and has made it the most prosperous in the Union, is called “lawless and criminal” by a journal that once had a respectable standing in the State, tut is now Jost to all self-respect. SSeS Te Appeal heads an article, ‘Let Justice be Done Though the Heavens Fall.” Soeay all of us. Tar and feather the leaders of the antiminers and their lawyers, sink them fifty feet deep in slickens, and justice will be done: the farmers and miners can then get together in harmony, _ the existing difficulty willbe settled, “ and we all ‘‘may be happy yet.” Still the Heavens vill not fall. How doest thou lize the picture ? pa Tue Appeal says hydraulic mining is a ‘‘monster iniquity.” If we wanted an animal of that kind we would call at the Appeal’s editorial room and secare the fellow who is perched upon a three-legged stool aud engaged in writing pusillanimous articles against the miners, \ cate eR RLS Mas, W.
