For Supreme Judge, * 8S. W. SANDERSON. t 1, "Kd BOuLTERS.—The bolters are catching the unmistakable and merited wrath of loyal men everywhere. There is not a single Union pa in the Stute, not, strictly in their, patronage and under their support, . which does not denounce in bitter and plain terme, the action of the bolters in the various votinties where there could be found a sufficient number of unprincipled men, formerly in the Union ranks, to furnish a base for their infamous operations. Indeed there never was -a-factiun so universally despised by all honest and right minded men throughout the State. We are glad that this office seoking infection is not general throughout the country. The Sacramento Union of thie business is confined to California. . In the East, whatever differences eecur upon the issues growing out of the war the Union men see thé necessity of maintaining an unbroken front: ~‘No-querrilia tickets have been put in the field there, for they have * had no encouragement. No arrangements have been made with Democrats for-offices.” These bolters constitute » faction and not a party. Their organization has no existence outeide of a few counties in the State, and * Yin these it is confined to a ‘few disappointed former office holders, and a few unprincipled political aspirants to whom preferment is dearer than principle, position than party, and who are alwaye an element of weakness Tathér than strength in any political party which has the misfortune to be afflicted ~owith them. . These men are always troublesome, politically, because they have no political manhood and are governed in all their actions in matters pertaining thereto, by their selfish instincts, disregarding pledgee and promises us things of little or no moment: “Such men, organized or disorganized, when they become thoroughly known and understood, are always powerless, and for the simple reason that they in their actions ate governed by no well grounded principle,} in which they all believe, but by eelfiah dosires which are varied and often conflicting. ‘Their selfish motive is ofvten-so strong that they will even go over tw the enemy to secure their ‘own ends. They should be made in such cases to rea the fruit of their own ain, the growth /of their own.sowing. The Union says: ‘The guerrilla politicians who have combined with the opposition for the defeat of Union \ tiekets will, iftthey persiat, be compelled to re the lot of that party, which ‘haus had ‘@ hing probation oat inthe cold, with only euch eccarional glimpses of the comforts of affice as have been caught by fattening their faces agit the frosted glase.”” Whatever May be the fate of the bolting clique in the @everal counties, whether it-end in their poFitigal ruin or-not, they are go fuol-hardy in % ehuracter that they are bound to fight the ee @hilig Gat. dn Sacramento. says the Union, Mthe spittoon nominees are iv the field, In ; == Nevada and Yuba the guerrillas continue the sight.” An eminent cerener in London recently dec that there were twelve thousand not in the metrepolige whe murdered their own children. _— * ©. 8. A., the boasted initials of the late ao-called “Confederate States ef America,” mean, according taflatest translation, “Crin‘eliuu Skirtum Abequatalum.” THURSDAY, AUGUST #4, 1608, THE Guzette of yesterday is out with the Gena), nuinb-r of dirty squibs against Capt. W. H, Sears, the editor of the bolter’s oryan, Who is nothing more or less than an infamous, political demagogue, has no respect whatever for honesty or men who act had any conscience or was ever known to do ani honest “aet;-it-wns before he became corruptedby the unprincipled and infamous clique of which he is now the head, His tongue, like all inen’s, was probably intended fora divine organ, but the devil is always playing short-hair tunes thereon. One day you find this political sommersault turner furiously denouneing any individual who would try to divide the Union party, and almost the next morning he wakes up the most infamons ofdisorganizers. He,however, denies that he or his friends—the devil you know has-friends—are responsible for what the nasty thing may have said in the past.— He takes an oath one day and breaks it the next; promises todo a thing and then goes 4+and_does exactly the opposite. At one time he denounced the short-hairs as the “d—d Conness clique,” but now. he is the warm personal and political. friend of “our ‘only sober Senator.” Truth is foreign to his tongue, political manliness unknown to him, and honest ‘conduct would seem as strange to him as would holy water tothe “father of lies.” He is but little worse, however, in word or deed than the rest of the bolting: clique.» ; ‘‘Borne by the tide of infamy along . Iné.voice, one mind, inspire the throng.” If there ever was a party hell-born and hell-deserving it is the bolter’s party of this county, audif there ever was a man—a little, infamous, foul-mouthed, contemptible man— decent men, that man 1s Harty Sears. A rabid Republican for years, strong in his pretended hatred of slavery, early active in the party, indebted tothe. very men he now denounces for all the political preferment he has ever reeeived, from the people of the county, standing by the Government during the long and dangerous struggle through which ‘she has passed, this ‘man, (if he is worthy the name of man) when the work ia half finished, the immense labor of reconstruction hardly begun, deserts the old flag, leaves the Union party and seeks for his po litieal-associates the very men he denounced furiously and loudly—we will not say ably — less than six months ago, He now atunds cut off from the.great Union party, opposed to the regular nominations, and occupying the most unenviable position in polities of any man‘in the county. He is now the chief tad-pole in the dirty pool of bolting politicians. Eastern News.—The Congressional contest in Tennessee resulted in the éleetion of “Horace Maynard, Colonels Cooper and Stokes, who are good Union men and in favor of emancipation, and. ex-Governor Wm. B. Campbell who is doubtful. The Congressional election in Kentucky was held on the 7th of August: Noreturns from that State. Colonel George B. Curry has asaumed cammand of the Department of Columbia. didates mentioned for Congress, in the State of Nevada, is Colonel Juhn Cradlebaugh, whom, we believe, was at one time United States Judge in Utah Territory, and was subsequently Judge in Nevada, where he served satisfactorily to all. He has also served his country in the Army of the Tennessee. He is said to bean able anand well fitted for the high position to which he aspires. We are indebted tu Chas. M. Gorham, Secretary of the Northern District Fair, for a complimentary season ticket to the pavilion, stock grounds and park. The fair at Marysville this season promises to be the best and most attractive of any ever held in. the State, ° Benj. Wood and Hyrain Levi were natur} lized in the County Court yesterday, Tae detachment under command of Capt. Cass, sent out by Col. Curtis te capture the wurderers of Williame and Kimball, hae returned to Drum Barracks without having found the-desperadoes. Tue balance ia the State ‘Treasury at the commencemout of business, Munday, Auguat 2st, was $510,144 72.The Rev. Dr. Bannister, of the University of the Pasifiec, declines a nomination by the Santa Cruz bolters. J. M. CUptish tine been re-appointed Postmaster of San Jose. That will be % e from conscientious motives—for if he éver’ deserving the everlasting execration of all . For ConGress.—Among the many ean-. (kee J. C. Garber, our candidate for Recorder, is Gne of the strongest mel on thie tick long been engaged in mining is Little York Township, in which he has been very successful. He is considered by all who know him a8 straightforward, upright and strictly honorable business man, of good ability and energy. He is just the man tobe liked them. We feel sure that he will get a very large vote from the mining class of our citizens, for you cannot find ne intelligent miner in the county, acquainted with Mr. Garber, who does not like him and respect him as agentleman.of much worth. He is a man who will give striet attention to hia duties. His deputies, we have no doubt, will be the best that can be found in the county. The-Union men of Nevada county could net’ have nominated @ better man for Recorder, or one more popular with all who know him, Mr, Garber is sure of an election. Senator, Charles Durkee, of Wisconsin, has been appointed to succeed James D. Doty, deceased; as Governor of Utah. Impudence has culminaled. The force of it can go no-farther. . We thought it was sufficiently b when John Bull rated us for complaining of his fitting out rebel pirates. That was nothing however. It is completely thrown in the shade by a proposition or the Londo News. ‘That journal proposes, that we pay the.Confederate Cotton Debt contracted in Europe by Jefferson Davis & Co., and that we do this as ‘‘an act of Justice to Neutrals!” : THE Chicago Journal, of the 10th ult. in an article welcoming. General Grant : Over the door of an humble saddlery in Galena, Tilinois, there hangs a sign with the inscription— _“Grant & Son.” To that sun, we. the peuple, cry, Welcome to-day. 8 ‘‘Hail to the chief welcome, and al! hail.'’ ARRIVALS AT THE NATIONAL EXCHANGE HOTEL.
