onesie insaaraitestn : . ) __terests of the county, while it has @. Mateo for $20,000, and intends to build U ‘again be called upon to raily around the party standard in a contest with the old enemy. The contest is not only ‘important in itself, but in its influence upon 'fatare contests in this State will be of the utmost importance. Remems ber that though this ‘ie only a State fight, the party here isa detachment of the. great party of the country under the lead of Grant. Remember the past, study the present and look to the future of Republicanism and De~ mocracy, Ask yourselves for which the country has most reason to hope? and aiter so doing goto the polls and vote as your reason and conscience dic tates. We have, an immense. debt. piled upon the country by Democratic policy, which is now beiag’ paid by a Republican administration ut the rate af ten millions per month. We have a State free from debt op account of the financial policy inaugurated by the Republican p»rty, aiter the administration had been taken out of the hands of Democracy almost bankrupt. The Republican party, by thwarting the purposes of Gwin and others who desired to establish a Pacific Republic, prévented desolating war on this coast, and saved California from the fate that hag fallen upon Virginia. The Republican party succeeded to the-administration of county affairs, when scrip was not’ worth 60 cents on thedollar, and when no ‘schools had been established of « creditable character and the school tax was only five cents on the dollar. The Union party has raised the value of scrip to 90 cents and will shortly clear the county of debt. It has riised the school tax to 25 cents, besides throwing in the appropriations of licenses on same purj etie » pose. In National, State and County affairs, the Republican party has served the people faithfully and advanced the in-, atrengthened the nation ani preserved its purity. What is there now to cause the people to distrust the party which has done all this? On the contrary, should not its record lead all good citix zens to trust the party and stand by it in the future as in the past? This they wiildo. The Republicans of Nevada county are united, and they will in the coming contest triumph. There is neither weakness or ‘dissention in the ranks. False issues. cannot lead them away from duty, and they enter the fight with the confidence of victory. Furtuer Repuction:—The Pacific Mail Steamship Company have reduced their rates still further, and changed their arrangements eo that there will be but two classes of passengers—cabin and steerage. The prices are fixed at $100 for cabin, and $50 for steerage. State rooms will be allotted in the order of application. First come first served. This isa good move. A nee A, H, Ross. of Amador, has purchased one hundred acres of land near San A Piece or Peace CaLico.—We were shown yegterday a sample of calico, manufacted in one of our Bastern cities expressly forthe National Peace Jubilee, which recently took place in Boston, Mass. It is ofa purple color with small shields interspersed threughout, and the word “peace” printed in white letters in each shield. At intervals of an inch, and running the éntire . length, is the staff of music, with the: notes of all the music sung at that time. Among them wo notice “Hail Columbia,” “Captain withthe Whiskers,” “Star Spangled Banner,” “Cap»~ tain Jinks,” “Red, White and Blue,” “Does your Mother know you're out,” “Old Hundred,” etc., etc. It’s a gay piece of calico, and the letter accompanying it, says that it was all the rage there at one time © THE FIRE oN THE RarLRoap.—It now appears that two miles of shedding was destroyed by the fireat'the Sum-=' mit, instead of one and a half miles, as given by us yesterday. It isstated the fire originated in some timber near the road, was communicated to the sheds and quickened by the stiff breeze that prevailed, so that when discovered it was too late to arrest it. The passengers from the East, who were forced to remain at Truckee, employed their time in visiting the points of interest in the vicinity, Beach, of the New York Sun, taking his family to Lake Tahoe, and Judge Breese, of Illinois, with his party -wisiting Donner Lake and the Summit. 4 large number of men were at once put to work clearilsg away the ruins and re-laying the track, and it is probs. ably ready for trains by this time. RESIGNATION.— We understand that John R. Brown has sent in to the Gentral Pacific Railroad Company his ress ignation as freight agent at the Sacra mento depot—the same to go. into ef. ‘fect on the first of September. Since connected with the Central Pacific road in varioud capacities, and hus ever given the greatest satisfaction to all with whom he had bcsinesstransactions. A few months since the merchants of that city presented him with a handsome testimonial of respect and esteem. Mr. Brown resigns his ‘position as freight agent, in order to become agent in this city for the Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company. PLEASANT VALLEY QUARTZ.— The ‘people of Pleasant Valley, in Rough & Ready Township, says the Grass Valley Union, are again getting somewhat excited over quartz, and are beginning to prospect. Mr. T. C. Bourne sends us some specimens from ‘a ledge which he has lately discovered, and these look as if the ledge is a good one. We areinformed that it prospects finely. There is no reason why Pleasant Valley should not have as good quartz as Grass Val-~ ley. Prospecting, alone, will show the facts of the case. ‘ A NgEw York . bride .of -seventeen charges her husband of sixteen with @ country residence, — . ae abandonments. > 4 “ Scnoor Funp APPorTIOMENT.—The . .
