8; Etc., State. rs ! cenessclear CO. nda, ty ofas, rtion at ist, L. sts D4 3. R, OVES, re, ard ware lowest ada. aN. ded to. ures, uc la. —$—$————— ORE Genu‘The Nevada D Daily Transoript . FRIDAY MORNING aveusT 28th FONNY PRuceevine.—Tlie canvass has produced some very amusing incidents but none more so than a little trifle that occurred the'other day, which we are going to-re~}—~ late just as it was, for it needs no embelishment. Somebody “slopped over” as we shall see. This is the way the nice little story is told: The Copperheads wanted te riga pur+ chase for Cornish votes. The leaders of Jeffs allies assembled at a certain place in town and it was tesolved that Dolan, their candidate must be withdrawn, because they tho’t they could puichase the Cornishmen to become ‘Copperheads and enemies to the Government by supporting one of their number for an office. Here is where the aforesaid leaders counted without their host, for the . Cornish are true tothe cause of freedom and good government always. But it. was’ de« cided that the Copperhead candidate tor Treasurer, should break the ice to Dolan, get him to meet the conclave, and by some means get him off the course and make the track clear for the so-called, “independent candidate. The wiry opponent of Gen. Coldius, full of devotion to hig. party, started out on his errand which was todo the. great thing of detaching three or four hundred loyal men from theit allegiance to principle and sell them out for a mess of pottage. Fast as alittle wagon, the errand boy of Dibble * esgerness he struck the wrong man by mis= take. He took one of the best Union men in town for Dolan, and the _— colloquy ensued : C—H.—Dpolan, wé would like re see you up town, on important business. A number of our party leaders are waiting to see you McI—~£.—What do they want to see me for? C—H.—Oh, the businegs concerns the wel~ fare of the party, and we are anxious to consult with you. McI.-—-Well, I'm busy and can’t go just now; but you can tell me what is wanted of me, can’t you? ‘ C—H.—Yes; the fact is Dolan, we have no show to win unless we get the Cornish vote. If we can get that, we are hunk; if we don't, not one of us has any chance. Now, you have got no more show than the rest ef us, and the expense of the canvass is going to be pretty heavy on us all, and for nething.— If you will just withdraw, you will save censiderable money and entitle yourself to the gratitude of the. party, for we can go for Sain. corral the Cornish vote, just like a d—n, elect ourselves, and you will not lose any~ thing hereafter, Ibet ye. Mcl.—(with mock seriousness)—T'll . tell “you what, C—h, I'd like that office mighty well ; bat I'am willing to sacrifice all my per: sonal aspirations for the good of the party ! C—H.—( Proudly and triamphantly patting Mc. on the back) I told them so! I ~ knew you'd doit! That’s the true Demcs cratic spirit! Now we'll clean ont them “‘Birelings of Abe Linkin, sure. We'll corral the Cornish as true.as you live. C—n went backand reported and there "was joy among the guerrillas for the space of half an hour, till they found out their mistake. McI. enjoys the joke hugely. PUBLIC SPEAKING aT Norta San Juan. We are authorized from headqyarters to announce that Hon, W. H.
