Average yield of Hydraulic Mining
Ground,We learn thiit’ Marselus & Maltinan,
owners “of; the “Manzanita hydraulic
claims, have made an estimate of the
number of cubic'yards of earth washed
in their clata:s daring the past season,
_which of course gives them the average
yield per. yard of all the ground piped
down and run through their flames.
The'average yield per cubic’ yard is
’ fifteen cents;:which would be but a trifle over halfa cent per cubic foot. At
this rate, if the gold-was equally. distr.buted, ixsvould take five or six pans
to raise the “color,” The gold is not

“Manzanita cluims have paid a good
profit during the last season, andthe
ownéjs expect them to pay much better next season; Some years ago, M.
Laur, a French mining engineer, examined. the hydraulic claims in. the vicinity of*North San''Jadp, and esti_ mated, the yield at a little over a franc
per cubic meter, which would give perhaps, about twenty cefits ‘to the cubic
yard ; but Mr, Black;who has had more
experience and better means of judging,

workmen began to raise the tannel.
Last Thursday the miners struck into . a

quantities that they could’ not try the

the water -had drained sufficiently to

CosMOPOLITAN Horen, San Francisco.—
Persons from Nevada County who go to
San Franciseo should invariably stop at the
Cosmopolitan Hotel, corner of Bush and
Sansome Streets. “It is decidedly the’ best
first-class Hotel at the Bay and yet the prices charged are lower than any of the™others. The proprietors are. the most. polite
and attentive landlords to be'found on the
Pacific coast;~ Give them. a call and -you
will never regret it.

The unexampled:success which for twenty
years has accompanied the use of Hostetter's
Stomach Bitters provokes the envy of ignorant nostrum-mongers in all parts of the country, and the counterfeiting business having
been meastreably played out in consequence
of the numerous suits insti*uted ‘against the
offenders, a new system of tactics has been
adopted. In the South and West especially, a
legion of “Bitters,” prepared from worthless
materials and bearing a variety of names,
have been got up by irresponsible adventurers . %
with the hope of substitating them to*rome
