There is a school teacher in Gold
Hill, Nevada, who, if the charges
preferred against him are well-found~.
4, ought to be kicked by every de-.
cert mau on the Pacific Coast. Prof.
Bicinces: Bdberigtendent of Public
Schools, and Prof. Bray, a teacher in
+the Gold Hill public schools, bad an
altercation at the entrance to the International Hotel Thursday morning.
Passmore “hit Bray in the face for
insulting bis daughter and other la
dies at Lake Bigler, whereupon Bray
knocked Passmore down with a
cane, Bray will doubtless be come .

circumstences that led to the con: ' ich, red‘ from the re=< ding-«-deseription-of the parties:an-. flict, which, ns gathered'from the re-/ own in race Eta hielo Manat tS Bye 3, Sats

time since some of the -members of
certain families of the good people
hoe. Among these were representatives of the Passmore family.—
‘Scon after Professor Bray follewed. In due time all parties foxad themselves enjoying the breezes and
‘beauties of Emerald Bay, where occurred the incident which eventuated’ in the-eellision.
While the party-first--mentioned
were atthe Bay-a number, of :young
Indies wished to take a wade ‘in*the
lim pid—waters,-anddoffiing . shoes
and stockings near the old pier and
-out of view from’the shore they proceedéd to the enjoyment of their
sport, A voice of warning from the
shore advised them a little later that
there were ‘‘tookers-on in Vienna;’’
. Brey and a companion with arms
akimbo gazing fully at them.
__No one claims that at:this.time the
Fexposure amounted to much, Stfit
the young ladies and their friendein
sist thavthe instinets of a gentleman™
‘shodld have forced these lookers-on
to have retired when cognizant of the
fact that ladies were enjoying pri-yately even so little as a wade, especially since they had sought a spet
secluded from view, except.to parties
well out on the pier.
But the lead and tront of the offense of Vaptaia Bray and compan
ion did not end bere. The ladies
not liking the intrasion of curious
eyes even upon se small an enjoyment 48 a Wade, retired to a still
willowsand beyond the -prejectioa
of the shore, Here divesting themselves of more of their apparel which
. was likely to become wet and soiled,
sumed their sport free, as they 4
thought form all intrusive eyes, ;
While thus disporting by themselves they were surprised and most,
e }painfully shocked upon looking up
to see Professor Bray and his con~
panion but. a little way off in a boat
with eyes fixed intently upon them.
They then beat a hasty retreat, took
towels, dried their feet aud retired.
BAD FOR, WORSE,
In years gone by the congrega-.
tion of a certain Grass Valley church
for the first few months of-his pastorate had the reputation of delivering
such brilliant aad logical discourses,
as had never been heard there: before or since. When it leaked out,
however, that the naughty. divine
had been edifying his flock with sec.
ond-band sermons, a large stock of
which he had purchased from the estate of a once prominent Eastern
clergyman, he received a notice to
the etfect that a change of location
ou his part would be desirable to all
concerned. Assoon as practicable
he departed, aesepting a_call tosge
and take a charge in’ another éection, whére has been ever since. A
few months ago one of his Grass Valley ex-members (Blivens, for short)
moved to the same place, and for the
‘second-time sat under the plagiarist’s
ceived a short time ago :

in the country and assures excellent

GRASS VALLEY MINES,
From the Union we glean the information that the New York Hull
‘mine continues to look very well at
the bottom and tothe north side
of the incline, where the rock. has .
been sorich of late.
At the Gold Hill. mine work has.
been commenced on the shaft to sink
fora third-level.The north winze from the. second
develin the Alaska mine has been
put down over ninety feet, and the
‘third level is being opened from the
‘bottom of the winze. The ledge in
this drift produces an excellent quality of ore.
completed the workings of three
tons of sulphurets from the New
the Union Hill road,. whicly yielded
$1,076, or $856 per ton, It is nov
necessary to remark that these were
very ich sulphorets.

NEVADA vs. PLACER.
The True Blue Base Ball Ulub, of
Grass Valley, have issued a chal.
lenge to any nine base ball players
of Placer county to play a match
gfame fora dead red ball and the
championship of Nevada and Placer
‘counties. The Grass Valley boys
play a very good game, but it seems
to us that from. the flower of the
county across the line theré ought
to be gathered a club that can hold
théitiown against them.
