On , jy20-3m kER, ‘Bt, LOCAL IT Snow Sheds on Fire. Information was received yesterday, by Colby’s Dutch Flat stage, that the snow sheds Were on fire near the summit. From what can be gathered, it is supposed that the fire has been most destructive, and that the sheds have been destroyed for a long distance. The fire commenced some time in the afternoon or evening of Friday, and was still raying at last accounts, Three trains of workmen, picked up we presume along the road, have been sent up past Dutch Flat to fight the fire. The great difficulty in extinguishing . the fire is the lack of water, as there is very little to be had for several miles -each side of the summit. There had been no trains through either way for twenty-four hours. . We have no information as to the origin of the fire, Excttement, ° Quite an excitement occurred yesterday, at the foot of China street, in which the Caucasians and Mongolians took about an equal interest. It appears that three or four boys were standimg on the street cor_ner,.and aChinaman. coming along, one of the juveniles, without provocation ‘threw a . rock athim. The celestial took after the boys and hitone of them asmart blow on the face, making his nose bleed-freely. The boy hit wasason of Peter Sciuti, but he was not the one that threw the ‘rock. “A crowd consisting of about an equal number of whites arid célestials, collected at the street corner and discussed the subject. It appeared to be the general sentiment of the Gaticadiahs' that the Chinaman was not to blame. We took no pains to ascer® tain the Mongolian opinion on the subject. Mysterious. : On Thursday evening a young woman -arriyed in Nevada by the Marysville stage, had been previosly engaged for her. On ,—her.trunk was marked the. name ‘Sue Clemens.” She had on an elegant traveling dress, and was quite good looking, and apparently about’ 20 years did. “After remaining in her room. a while, she went out the back door, and nothing has been heard from her since. A telegraph was received the next day from Grass Valley for the trunk, but the person could not be found, and who she was or what her business is a mystery. : The hoisting and pumping works erected by W.C. Stiles on his ledge near Roger Williams ravine, were started up for regular work yesterday afternoon. Mr. Stiles has constructed a regular railroad track from the mine . to the mill, so that the ore will be cartied to the mill without reloading, and the hoisting being done by water power, everything will be conducted on an economical scale. Auction, Wm. H. Davidson will hold an extensive auction sale on Tuesday next, at the sales room on Main street, near the junction of Commercial.
