The Meeting To-night. .
Citizens should. remember the
meeting to-night for the purpose of
making arrangemeuts for the establishment of a seminary in this city.
So far as we can learn every one fa‘yors the move. We know of no
reason why avy opposition can be
made, Besides the great saving in
expense to parents residing . here,
who would otherwise be —
to send their childrenaway td school,
____it-would be av accommodation-to the
whole county.’ A good school of the
kind proposed to be established, will
help to increase the property ‘of the
place. Business will necessarily increase a8 population increases, and
population will increase. when there
are inducements for people to come
here to settle. When the history of
places having such institutions is
studied, it wiil be fouifd that to their
presence much of its prosperity is
due. Let all come out prepared to
make some suggestion favorable to
the move.
Schools, ~~
The schools of this city commence
August 17th. Those of «Grass Valley commence the first of September.
The San Juan schools about the
samg-time as those of ‘Grass Valley.
Forest Springs school commenced
two weeks ago, and the one at Eure.
ka started last Monday. Many of .
the echools of the county had a vacation of but one week during sal
first of Jaly, Most of the uld teachers are retained. So far as we are
able to ascertain, school matters are .
progressing favorably all over the,
county.
