He -was about sixty years of age, and has resided in this city since 1850. At one time he kept store and was a sober, industrious man, but intemperate habits ruined his business; the money h® had acquired by industry was squandered, and at last the poor old man, houieless and friendless, went toa drunkard’s grave. He left town about 12 o'clock on Sunday night. and died in a fit soon alter he reached the hospital. He came to this State from Rhode Island. New Mitt.—A splendid twenty-four horse power engine was shipped from the foundry of Heugh & Thom, of this city, on Saturday, for Eureka. It is designed for the new mill which is being erected ‘upon the Young Ledge by R. C. Black. -The ledge shows excellent rock, and it will yield a handgome return when the new mill gets to work. ; New Lepee.—An excellent ledge, six feet wide, which shows gold all through it, was discovered at Eureka last week by Brown and others. Some of the best quartz indications in the county are found ia the vicinity vt Eureka, and as men of. cupital are guing into the ledges in that—lveality there will be large treasure returns frow the minee as soon ag they are opened. Neither of the above genuine with Outour siguature acrus the fuce of the lapel REASONS WHY THE AMERICAN WATCH Made at WALTHAM, MASS, IS THE BEST. It is made on the best principle. Its frame is composed of SUL(ID PLATKS. NO jarcanin terfere with the harmony of its werkiny and no me aply sudden shock can damage its machinery. Every piece is made and finished by machinery (itsel{ famous for its novelty, as-well as for its effiectiveness) and is therefore properly made. The watch is what a.l mechanism should be~—4AC CURATE, SIMPLE, STRONG AND EUVON.OMICAL, Except somehigh grades, too cobtly for general use, foreign watches are chiefly made by women and boys. Suéh watches ar: composed of several hundred pivees screwed _and riveted together, and require constant re pairs tokeep them in any kind of order. Ali persons who have carried *‘ancresy”’ ~lepines’’ and **hnglish l’atent Levers,” are perfectly well aware of the truth of this statement. : ‘At the beginning of our enterprise, more than ten years ayo, it wae our first object to make a thoroughly good low-priced watch for the million, tu take the place of these ‘foreign impositions—the refuse of foreign factories— which were entirely unsaleable at home and perfectly worthless every where. ‘How well we have accomplished this may be uuderstood from the fact, that after so many years of public trial, we now make MORE THAN HALF OF ALL THE WATCHES SOLD IN THE UNITED STATES, and that no others have ever given such universal Batisfaction. White this department of our business is continued with increased facilities for: perfect work, we are at present engaged in the manufacture of watches of the very HIGHEST GRADE KNOWN TO CHRONOMETRY, unequalled by anything hitherto mad by ourselves and unsurpassed by anything made in the world For this purpose we have tHe amplest facilities. We have erected un addition to our main buildings expreasly for this branch of our business, and have filled it with the beat workmen inour service. Mew machines and appliances have been constructed,» whieh pertorin their work with consummate delicaey and exactneas. The choiceat and most approved mate rials Oaly are used and we challenge comparison between this grade of our work und the finest imported chronometers. Wedo not pretend to our watches for less mopey than foreign watches, but we do assert withuuc fear of, contradiction that for veel se yee lpia gam pet a coy Aye = etuily wolranead and thie warrantee is good af‘all times againet us or ouragents in.all paris of the world. = CAUTION.— The public are eauttoutd to buy only of respectable deulers.
