* ‘ te Datly Traci. Ze *. puBLISHED At { neven? City, Nevada County, CALIFORNIA. Brown & CALKIns. . :. Proprietors. TUESDAY, JULY 28, 1885. Tux progress made in science during the past few years is truly wonderful. The taking out of a human eye was considered a wonderfiil feat; but now they are planting a new eye in the vacated socket. Dr. Chibert, a French oculist, reports to’ the Acadamie de Medicine that, having been obliged to remove a diseased eye from a young girl, he replaced. it with one taken from a rabbit. At the time of his statement fourteen days had elapsed and the eye had maintained its vitality and was doing well, In these latter days of scientific attainment, physicians have no trouble in taking aman to pieces and putting him together again. Tr has been decided to bury General Grant in Central Park, New York, on Saturday, August 8th. In the Griffin breach of promise case at Napa, the jury awarded the plaintiff $500 damages. In a storm in Italy thirteen persons were killed and twentytwo others injured. Louis Taorgav killed himself near Menlo Park, Santa Clara county, last week. pe Oe An American girl has taken the first prize for singing at. the Paris Conservatoire Groroz MaxweLL committed suicide in the jail at Fairfield, Solano county. Tur French aeronaut, (Gower, thought to be ~lost, is reported to be safe. _>e--Frank B. Crowes killed himself near. Stockton ,in a fit of despondency. Sn Denmark has a scandal almost’ ejualing the London iniquity. >_> GuApsToNe’s voice is said to have entirely failed. -Davirr declines to run for the British Parliament. ORDA AAT LATTE FT A What a Pity That the otherwise beautiful girl should have such bad teeth. And because she did not use SOZODONT. It costs so little to buy it considering tne good it does, and its benefits stretch out into her future life. Poor girl! ~ je23-5w Carpet. Weaving. Mrs. John Gray has resumed the weaving of carpets, and is prepared to do all kinds of weaving on short notice and in the best manner. Orders left at Gray’s blacksmithshop on Main street, near the bridge, will receive prompt attention. jy 19-lant RTs RARE TESA NN LI I ETS ARRIVALS ATFIHE HOTELS. WILLIAM WOLE'S PRICE LIST For Cash ! THEY ARE SPLENDID GOODS. It is claimed that the causes of the superiority of Scotch goods over all ‘others, are: That Scottish Heather produces aclass of wool which for fineness] of texture, strength and durability, cannot be matched in any other portion of the world. That the mineral properties of the water there fastens the colors in unfading brilliancy; and that the cunning and patience and industry of the canny Scotsmen beats the world in the art of manufacture.
