The Fair and Festival. :
The ladies of the Congregational
Society made a success of the
fair given by them this’ —week
at the Theatre. Most of the articles
sale by tiem were
‘disposed of sat satisfactory prices, and the tab'es at which sup)e:
was served, were well patronized
each evening. The entertainment
on Wednesday evening drew a full
house, aud, considering the time
taken to get it up, was a very fiue
hing. The tublexnx were good, and
all the other exercises were well earried out.” Last ight there

the meetings of this Bociety, and
never failto be highly pleased and
pleasantly entertained. To-night
the society will meet at the Union
Hotel, where there_is every accommodation for.apleasant time. It
does not need a word from us to convinee pleasure-seekers that the Union
is the place to find it to-night.
‘ Short Grass.
The Grass Valley Union says the
grass must be short in the matter of
local items, when we refer to cows
eating young grass hereabouts.
How does it appear when an item is
made in the Union second hand upen the same subject?
Christmas Eve Party,.
Messrs. Scott & Parks will give a
‘quadrille party at the Theatre on
Friday . evening, December 24th.
The music will consist of aviolin,
piano, cornet, and bass vidl. Tickets of admission will be $2. Dancing will commence promptly at 8
o’cloek, and continue until all are
satisfied. A supper will be provided
_ pat the Armory for all who desire it,
by ome of the societies’ of the city.
All the late. dances will be introduced,
and every effort made by the managerato make the party a pleasant
