AFortnight's V acation,—
The City Board of Education held
aspecial meeting last evening to
provide for closing the sehdols on
the 17th instant for a vacation of
two weeks’ duration. The law provides thatthe time of closing be on
the Friday preceding Christmas, but
as Christmas falls on Saturday this
year, and the children ‘will not be
able te entertain thought of much
else than Santa Claus and the holiday festivities for several days’ prior
to that auspicious time, the Board
think there is no use in keep‘ing them ata labor in which they.
would display .so little interest.
Therefore the vacation will extend
from the 17th instant till the first
