maddened by scratches and bites
of the lion, strove to. break down
the strong cage in which its enemy was confined, and twice the
elephant renewed its hold. Finally the man, reinforced by other
workers in the museum, succeededinbinding the little elephant
with ropes and chains, and securing him at a place far removed
from the lion. . It was found that
the lion’s leg was badly wrenched.

of this movement is not publicly
stated, bnt the supposition is that
the people of that section propose
to organize for protection against
the presence of the anti-mining
sneaks who have for a long time
infested the community, and also
against the ravages .of sheep and
cattle that are driven from the
valleys every summer and clean
out all the feed so that stock owned there has to be taken to remote
ranges to prevent it from starving.
It is about time that the people of
this county did something to cor
rect both evils.
