districts where the disease prevails,and
dozen. A case ovcurred in this city
walking about the streets not knowing
what the matter was until it was pronounced small pox by the physicians.—
The Town Trustees immediately went
to work for the purpose of procuring a
place where such patients may be well
takencare of, and where they will be
removed away from contact with the
community. Other ¢asés will ‘ho doubt
occur, and while the victims should receive the best treatment possible, they
should be remuved to some place where
there will be less probability of the
spread of the disease :than if they re
maibed in the midst of the commanity.
We hope that at the meeting of the
Board of ‘Supervisors this matter will
bé canvassed, and if they have the authority a comfortable small pox hospital should be fitted ‘up immediately.
As a precaution every person in the
community should be vaccinated. Statistics show that where vaccination is
compulsory. thé Mortality from small
pox is from 2 to8 to the thousand, while
in countries where it is voluntary the
mortality is from. 16 to 50 to the thousand, This of itself is enough to prove
the advantage of vaccination. If proper care is taken of those Whi have the . .
disease and vaccination is general,there
is scarcely a probability that ‘it will
prevail to any extent in this loéality.
