POISON COPYING BOOKS.
The Record-Union says that:a gentlemam connected -with one of the
State offiees at the Capitol, in which
siderably, has been potwoned on the
neck and right ear, which he happened to rub one day after handling
the carbon sheets used in the book to
give the writing color. ie parts affected became inflamed and swollen!
resembling an attack of erysipelas,—
For a day or two the physicians in
attendance could not understand the
sause of the trouble, but the paper
was finally suspected, and a portion
of it analyzed, the result being that it
was found to contain an active. poison, A great many of the books are
in use among the business men of Nevada City, and it will be -well fer all
who have to use the paper to wash
their hands carefully after so doing.
CHEROKEE CEMETERY.
The National says that a few of
the citizens of Cherokee .have taken
in hand the worthy object of repairing and heautifying the cemetery~inr
that place. They have already. had
all the brush removed. A meeting
has been called for the purpose _ of:
raising sufficient funds to inclose. 1t .
with a neat fence and to bring-a supply of water on the ground fcr irri-,
gating.
ABOUT BOYS.
To cure boys of hanging their hats
ou the fidor place a box or bag in a
convenient place, and whenever anything is left out of place, whoever
sees it can put itin the box or bag.
The owner when he wants it, must
pay a forfeit by doing something;+—
having it understood just what the
forfeit is for each one—writing a sentence on a slate, or learning or reciting a verse of poetry, or a passage of
Seripture--anything that will take a
little time when the. boys are in a
hurry for hat or books Sr whatever
the articles may be.—Ex.
THERE is a man in East Tennessee who believes in the speedy. sec.
oud coming of our Lord, and who
prepares for it by, having his wife
hang a clean shirt on the bed post
every night, so that he may, if.
siddenly awaked at night by the
trump, speedily present a clean exterior, That is cheaper than. the
ascension robes of the Millerite ex, eibement. :

A UNIQUE SUGGESTION.
Lovely. woman, if thou wouldst always be lovely, listen to, the counsel
of the Céantesse de Bassanville in the
‘‘Almanach du _ Savoir-Viere.:’—
‘‘When you are past twenty-five,”
she says, ‘‘never let. more than five
or six hours pass without closing
your eyes for a short time—say ten
nuautes ; not necessarily to sleep,
but to repose the muscles of the eye.”’
Every movement and play of the face
necéssarily tends to fatigue these
muscles—whether it be a smile or
the expression of surprise or of fixed
action. The closing of the’ eyelids
ed as a *‘beanty rest.” The mmscles,
reposed, lose their tendency to that
nervous contraction which translates
itself into wrinkles. SS ietonl
roe“*Pa,” said a little boy five ears
side by side in the meadow this very
morning.” > ‘Tut, tut,. James, don’t
tell “such stories,” said the father.
“I tell you I did,” persisted the
child : “but it was a dandelion.”
